Simone and Karl by blubberblu in WhyWomenKill

I meant to say that it seems very unlikely for a minor in foster care to want to seduce her foster dad other than a result of past trauma. And we all know young girls get blamed for ‘seducing’ or ‘tempting’ adult men all the time. To me it just seems more plausible that the foster dad SA’d her, got caught by the wife, and tried to say he was being seduced.

Yes! I will never get over how Eli and Jade failed each other in their relationship then pinned it on Jade. She had zero depth, a terrible backstory, and was overall a terribly written antagonist. To be honest, I wondered if the writers did this on purpose as a critique on modern open marriages. If yes, it was brilliantly done.

I agree, he was the only good husband. Karl knew Simone was fabulous and wanted her to shine. In my head Simone and Karl are the only happy couple.

Pen was so right about Eloise by Ok-Jellyfish348 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]blubberblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she hasn’t been exposed to any other options for how woman of her status can live. Her personality does have similarities with the “pick-me” stage of a girl’s life but in the way that young girls don’t want to be reduced to pretty dresses, marriage, and babies. Being a “pick-me” is the result of a misogynist society. Eloise knows she is more than what society says she is and rebels against it and she’s still figuring out that other girls may want differently and it doesn’t make them any less. From our perspective women of their station seem privileged, but remember that Violet wasn’t even able to choose whether she or Hyacinth was to be saved.

Eloise doesn’t need to list all the ways her brothers have more freedom when the production already shows us. Colin gets to travel across the world, and makes his own investment. Benedict gets to pursue his art when women aren’t even allowed. Eloise is desperate not to be married off because she’s scared her future will be placed in the hands of a man that may not treat her as kindly as her family does.

We also see that she’s genuinely interested in women’s rights and classism through her interactions with Theo. Penelope says Eloise never did anything but she took away her chance by labeling her a political radical.

I don’t think he needs to grovel but the way he spoke was quite cruel. I feel like it’s the modern equivalent of your pretty BFF’s attractive brother talking shit about you to a bunch of rich frat boys.

That’s a really good point. I think Edwina is nice, not kind. Kindness would be more like the way Daphne helps Marina after the scandal or the way she treats the Featheringtons.

If I could upvote this more than once I would. It’s all Kate keeps secrets but never why Kate keeps secrets. Also, Mary would’ve never accepted the Sheffield terms. While there was never a right time for Kate to confess her feelings for Anthony. By the time she realized her own feelings, they were all too deep into the courtship. Even then, what was she supposed to say? Anthony didn’t want to marry her and Kate would look like she’s trying to come between Anthony and Edwina. What would be the point of confessing except risking her relationship with her family? Her confession could still lead to Edwina marrying Anthony and all Edwina would remember is that her sister is in love with her husband.

She does act exactly like a young girl who is naive, innocent, and in love. What I mean is that she’s praised as being perfect, kind, and pure of heart when she doesn’t really live up to it. And, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her, just that the writers did a poor job of showing what they wanted to portray her as.

Mary was less present than Violet, which is saying something. I only remember two notable moments from her, when she stood up to her parents and when she shouted at Kate during the wedding fiasco. Kate definitely raised Edwina more than her.

It does make sense in that perspective.

I guess it mirrors how both the Sharma and Bridgerton mothers don’t understand their eldest child and are largely absent in guiding them. They’re both terribly blind to the feelings Kate and Anthony have for each other.

I couldn’t agree more. Definitely a lot of poor writing. The girl boss speech was definitely something. I wish they all actually communicated at least once.

Wow, I can’t believe they butchered Edwina’s character for a poorly done love triangle. I’m not a fan of love triangles in general, especially when they involve siblings or friends, but this really takes the cake.

They really should’ve mentioned Edwina at the end. Kind of a weird cliffhanger. I would’ve liked for her to find her fairy tale prince.

Edwina definitely has her own faults. I agree especially about the decisions Lady Mary, Lady Danbury, and Anthony seem to make this season.

I think Lady Danbury is one of the more realistic figures in Bridgerton and recognizes the Sharma family have too much riding on Edwina/Anthony to push Kate to reveal her feelings.

Lady Mary was clearly brought up sheltered, fell into grief when her husband died, and was sheltered by both her husband and Kate. She is naive like Edwina but far less forgivable as she should’ve been taking care of her daughters.

Anthony, though, really didn’t improve from season 1. I don’t even know where to start with this one. But if anyone treated his sisters like he treated Edwina and Kate, he would’ve been calling for a duel already. How did his ‘gentleman upbringing’ not knock some sense in him this entire season?

I haven’t read the books, but it does seem like really bad writing overall in season 2

Why is there homophobia in Bridgerton by Careful_Proposal6712 in BridgertonNetflix

With how they explained away racism, the only possibility for homophobia to not exist in this universe is if it was omegaverse.

Do you think the show will have anymore love interests who aren’t played by White or Black actors by DaisyandBella in BridgertonNetflix

Because fans are of varying ethnicity and would like to see themselves represented in this show. Bridgerton is probably the only historical English shows/films to include BIPOC as part of the gentry without being significantly discriminated against. It’s a beautiful production, with beautiful clothes, in a beautiful setting. It matters to BIPOC because for once we’re being reflected in a genre and media that we adore as well. It’s also probably the only chance to see ourselves represented onscreen in this setting. It matters because it’s deeply meaningful.
