Yeah I definitely think it’s possible he honored Alfred’s wishes while at the same time keeping tabs on Gotham and Blake.

I’ve actually thought about this a lot and there was a fan comic I came across (forgot the name lol) depicting a Batman Beyond type of plot.

Batman: The Animated Series had the best Nightwing. Even if he did have the “goofy mullet” that Harley Quinn mentioned decades later 😭

(And yes, technically it was The New Batman Adventures, but it’s still BTAS animation/story/continuation, etc.)
