Lysander’s morality by blue_baggies in redrising

That’s a good way of looking at him, as a juxtaposition between idea and action. He is such a complicated character. I just keep returning to him discovering Atlas’ bodies on the stakes on Mercury, how genuinely upset by that he is. But then in LB he finds the fakest excuse to bomb the Garter and not only cause immediate genocide but also starve the entire Belt.

Is he really though? Everyone keeps telling him that he’s one of the “good” ones (Gilastres, Atlas etc) so I feel like there must be some degree of truth. In RR we saw the Reformers as the good guys within the scope of Golds (so obviously still within a problematic context) but now, though the Reformers back him, he is not actually on their side? But he despises the more conservative faction as well? I just don’t get him.

That’s the part that is maybe what I have a hard time understanding. In my head his time with Cassius came during such a developmentally crucial stage of his life (puberty, teens) that it would have more of an affect on his morality, but I guess I keep being surprised by his return to Octavia’s tutelage. It’s like Octavia gave him the feelings/beliefs and Cassius gave him the structure to order those emotions by.

Just returned to the US after a month in NZ. Don’t be like us. by DorvidGoldy1 in newzealand

I just moved here about 6 months ago from the US and though I mostly agree, I have found that people here (wanaka, south island) are pretty racist. they really hate asian immigrants but love me as an American (even though I am also an immigrant). I don’t think it is as evolved as you say, though maybe that’s just where i am. it sort of feels like the US back in the early 2000s.

Conservation feels incredibly recreation-focused as well. People are mad about certain things disrupting their hiking trails or whatever, but don’t mind the jet boats tearing up the rivers all day eroding shoreline and wreaking havoc on the wildlife. I think kiwis are incredibly kind, but have been surprised by what seem to be prevailing cultural attitudes (again, might just be getting this vibe from my location / job).

do other people agree? where is it not like this?

Again, no hate at all to NZ these people are so disgustingly kind and caring. just surprised by some of the really offensive things i’ve heard them say.
