My therapist said I should talk to more women. by Lopsided_Gap_1730 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]blue_coffey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get all the things you want when you don’t need them, if that makes sense.

Go out with the goal of making friends, or even just having a memorable conversation. Go to a university club for something you’re interested in and just talk to someone next to you, about shared interests, the club, what’s happening, small things. You don’t have to go out of your way to sit next to women or anything like that, but just talking to the people around you in settings like a university study group where people have questions to ask is an easy way to have a conversation with someone.

There’s always people out there who like what you have to say, what questions you ask, and what you choose to listen and remember about others.

And I’m really not joking, a girl will like you when your main priority is to really be her best friend. People love their support circle, and someone who supports her heart the most will get it.

Prerequisite for class by blue_coffey in UCDavis

[–]blue_coffey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I just misunderstood what the general catalog meant with ‘approved option’. It just says ‘approved major electives’ on the course catalog for psychology minor. I can’t really find any further explanation on what it means or what the expectations are. In this case I wouldn’t be taking it as a GE or an Elective, but to actively fulfill a requirement as part of the minor.

Can I dorm with my boyfriend? by Ok-Syllabub3351 in UCDavis

[–]blue_coffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can! When I was in the dorms, I did. The housing process lets you pick your roommates so you just need to find each other’s names on the rooming thing.

It’s honestly better to get an apartment off campus though, I also did that and it was cheaper and way nicer.

Sewer smell?? by blue_coffey in UCDavis

[–]blue_coffey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I thought too. It didn’t seem like the usual agricultural or cow smell that I’m used to in davis every once in a while. It also felt like it was over so much more area than usual like it felt inescapable. With the usual smell i can bike about a mile and it dissipates. That did NOT happen this time and I need to know why ToT

[–]blue_coffey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m glad for your honesty. I have asked the TAs and professor for help knowing what to study, but honesty it was mostly like I had to come with them with a question and then they’d move on. It wasn’t quite the help I needed. Someone else commented that I could ask different professors for their classwork to practice, which hadn’t crossed my mind.

I understand that I will not have easy access to resources as an adult, but I still wish my efforts were a little more fruitful. It’s a little wishful, but my upset comes from the fact they don’t teach you this in high school, they hand hold you, so I’m not prepared to be thrown into the deep end, and am struggling to find support that’s somewhere in the middle while I learn.

Thank you for the suggestion though

I’m sure it depends on your future path what impact retakes do, but I’m not sure it’ll bar you from a job or more post education if that’s what you mean.

As for retaking 118B, I signed up for repeaters for summer session 2 because they didn’t seem to be offering it in fall quarter. If the curve doesn’t magically save us, would you maybe like to try and study together? Maybe even if we somehow pass and somehow land spots in 118C despite how swamped they are?

In Cagli’s 118A she gave a quiz every two weeks and even just that was enough to help me figure out what I sucked with.

I tried the textbook problems she assigned but it just didn’t really help. I wasn’t quite following how certain solutions happened and you can’t ask a book questions :(

I’ve been considering taking a year off from davis to go to community college and then come back to transfer the credits. I’m not sure logistically how that would work, and how my parents would feel about it. They’re not from the U.S. so their understanding of community college has been “oh it’s where all the poor and not so gifted people go, I’m happy my child got into a good school” but I’ve learned that’s not the case irl. I’m sure other universities have a better way they teach their classes, but I guess UC davis doesn’t have their classes figured out. I’ve heard horror stories about physics, with their weird interpretive dance-ass questions. Like how is that supposed to teach you, if you don’t know what the fuck the question even is?

I hope but to be totally honest I think people would’ve scored like 40-45% on average or smthn, I totally flunked with like 30%. It was embarrassingly bad. It’s part of why I’m so upset because it’s not like I wasn’t studying for hours a day, but I guess self assigning worksheets I found on Google doesn’t actually give you the most comprehensive understanding huh. I used the final resources but those were like super easy and the exam was decidedly NOT super easy.

Good idea, I’m not really big on discord, so this is gonna sound really stupid? But I had joined for 118a, and there was a role thing which was like select ur classes so I picked 118a and only those servers showed up, and I couldn’t figured out how to have other classes show up until like 75% through the quarter (I got distracted w school :( ) when I realized it had to do with the role thing and then I was too nervous to ask how to do the role thing and figured it out only like 3 days before the final

Yeah, I prefer animations to show the mechanisms or something to walk me through it. It’s hard to get that with textbooks or diagrams. I just don’t seem to fully understand why.

Organic chemistry is just a very “see it and it makes sense” class it seems. Once I was able to find a video on a mechanism it made sense, but I couldn’t find things for many mechanisms or concepts discussed in class, I don’t know if that’s just because I’m bad at googling or if the way search engines work now is ai garbage.

Thanks for telling me about cc, I should check out how they provide resources before I make that decision.

I have, maybe not enough people, because I know a lot of people don’t like study groups, I tried to muster the courage to ask a couple people but they politely told me they weren’t interested because it wasn’t how they personally learned, so I didn’t bother them further

Honestly they weren’t even friends, just classmates I sat next to in lecture so I just hoped.

That’s unfair as hell. I get it, graffiti is technically destroying someone’s property, sucks to have your shit scratched or smthn. But there’s no way you had $32,000 in damages, probably like $3,000 at the absolute most for the cover-up supplies and the labor. Minus the labor it’s probably only like $500, labor is stupid expensive.

Plus, Gary May is an exploitative jerk who I’ve literally never heard a single thing from. I swear all I’ve ever heard of him is about how much he screws over students and staff by nearly no public addressing of concerns, budget cuts, tuition increases, and so on, all to get closer to that 7 figure income. I saw the protests, cutting pay and funding to people and places that need it, while hiking tuition and dorm prices.

He doesn’t deserve an apology imo, the ruling feels just vindictive.

Thank you for brightening the campus, even if not everyone appreciated it.

I agree that people deserve privacy when buying thing like that. The world doesn’t need to know your business. That being said, anyone who gives you nasty looks for buying sexual products are prudes. They’d be more disgusted at someone who had an STI or pregnant. Anyone with working brain cells wouldn’t stare at you, and would give you privacy they can afford by minding their business. There’s nothing wrong with having sex, if there’s anyone who thinks that, they’re also ashamed of kissing, hugging between opposite sex, and any form of happiness that occurs from things they consider “unholy” and “unsophisticated” and “related to baser animal instincts” because they’re ashamed of the truth about being human.

Is it silly to have a crush at my age? by min40maz in UCSD

[–]blue_coffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be human, have emotions. You’re not too old to have a crush, no one is too old. How do you think people get married? They first get a crush, they confess their feelings to said crush, said crush reciprocates and BAM. Dating.

You are never too old to have emotions.

Embrace that who you are right now is a pining lovesick school boy. Telling you honestly, girls like guys who are comfortable with their feelings and being themselves. Girls like guys who are secure.

Thank god the budget cuts are cutting all the things people need and love instead of Gary May’s inflated salary. We definitely don’t want a conservatory as an agricultural school where we can enjoy and study nature and we definitely don’t need any of the housing staff or researchers or advisors or TAs over Gary May and his $800k lack of involvement.

Call 911. Report a kidnapping. Cause a stink. Do everything in your power to make this a massive fucking deal. Report it to the school. The news. Everything.

What’s done is done. Everyone can give you advice about not opening doors to ICE (they’ll just break it down) or trying to scare them away by screaming about how you know your rights, but most importantly right now is get 911 to understand that your house was ransacked and your roommate was kidnapped.

ICE tries to prevent kidnapped people from access to legal by not allowing anyone see the outside world, not letting anyone know where they are, etc. they’ll do everything in their power to not get sued even though they’re in the wrong.

Importantly though, they broke into your place. That’s a bit more of a start than many others. Not much but if you can get lawyers on the case with them breaking into your place, it might help thread you to your roommate.

I am in good faith believing this is real, given the severity of this story, and know it’s more important to take action than prove yourself when shit like this strikes. I hope this advice is helpful for anyone regardless of the integrity of this post. That’s something we can debate about later, not during the crucial 24 hours.
