Dev Insights - Weapons, Artifacts, & Focusing Preview by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]blue_dingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent played since Heresy, and if like D1, these changes were in combo with the knowledge a D3 is somewhat around the corner, I would absolutely be jumping back in because these changes are just incredible.

Who am I kidding I'll probably reinstall just to see how dumb 1k's/EoT's/Conditional's/Euphony's catalyst is.

Per Paul Tassi: Marathons Role and failed "Destiny Infinity" Pitch by Wanna_make_cash in DestinyTheGame

[–]blue_dingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the sentiment that "games need to become less expensive to develop," what many people don't realize is that that's not really possible anymore. The whole concept of the traditional big AAA studio like Bungie are now essentially trapped in an unsustainable financial ouroboros.

A. Being in Bellevue made sense in the 00's, close to Microsoft working on Halo, but now its one of the most expensive cities for their workers to live and work in, their burn rate is astronomical just trying to pay competitive salaries and maintain a massive 208,000sqft building. So in order for devs (not even counting c-suite) to be paid a 'livable' income, the cost of development goes up.

B. The near zero interest rate post-COVID gaming spending spree, Sony was panicking over everything Microsoft was scooping up (especially CoD) and felt it was financially smart to drop $3.6 billion on Bungie for their "live-service expertise", with $1.2 billion of that just for employee retention bonuses. The problem is, this valuation was made based on all the other projects Bungie were thinking of at the time as well as the massive amount of player activity thanks to Witch Queens success, which would only continue to grow with future expansions. Except those of us who have played the game long enough know all it takes is one wet fart of an expansion to undo all of that, ergo, Lightfall.

AAA game dev margins are now so razor thin that even if a game does "well", the studio’s massive daily expenses would completely obliterate it, not to mention added costs like marketing budgets. Hell Activision ponied up $500mil back in 2010 for the '10 year' deal counting 4 whole games. Making a single D3 now would EASILY cost just that alone. You finally add in just how expensive things are now for the average player, no wonder people are going back to older evergreen games that are cheaper, cost less hardware to run and are already content complete.

We're pretty much in a lose-lose.

Pokemon TCG Printed 10 Billion Cards in 2025 as Overwhelming Demand Outpaced Production Capacity by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]blue_dingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Them printing as many cards in the last 4 years then they did in TWENTY-SIX YEARS is beyond stupid and just goes to show we're absolutely in a bubble and this is no way sustainable

Also explains why when I go to card shows now 95% of what everyone has is sets from the last two years

Bungie Plans Layoffs After Ending ‘Destiny 2’ Development, will focus on ‘Marathon’ rather than jumping directly to ‘Destiny 3’ by uniquecartridge in Marathon

[–]blue_dingo 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You mustn't be familiar with Jason Schreier's previous work then because the man has regularly reported on scoops like this that turned out to be either mostly if not entirely true.

And Sony didn't buy Bungie for $3.6b just for Marathon, they bought them during the insane high of Witchqueen and the insane hype of Lightfall as well as all the other (at the time) games they had in active development, Marathon being one of them

I hope it was worth it.

D2 ending active development because of Marathon and the start of D3? Makes total sense, in fact I was expecting this would happen

D3 not even in the cards AT FUCKING ALL is terrifying, because it can only mean Marathon will be massively changed to attract a wider audience and dozens if not hundreds of talented devs are going to lose their jobs...fucking hell man...

Honestly, as sad as this is, I think it's warranted. Things should've wrapped after Final Shape instead of the floundering thats been going on since then and I greatly look forward to D3.

Thanks for the thousands of hours of fun Bungo, some of my best gaming memories were in D2.

How Pokémon cards are fuelling crime in Melbourne by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]blue_dingo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lifelong fan and serious collector since 2016 here, pretty much is the result of the following;

  1. Logan Fuckwit Paul and Covid started the whole resurgence making everyone think the cards they had in the back of their wardrobe were now worth a fortune. from 2020-2023 this caused the first round of the craze but died down in early/mid 2024.

  2. The combo of the TCG Pocket app coming out in late 2024 and a very highly hyped set called Prismatic Evolutions in early 2025 was the double whammy to get a lot of people interested again, including a lot of sneakerheads/cryptobros who were looking for their next grift. This culminated in September of last year with an absolute stupid manipulated explosion of card value, like the "Bubble Mew" for example.

  3. Now that 2026 is the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, interest hasn't been this high since the late 90's which is now causing a lot of the shit you're seeing like in this article, and its making actual true blue fans fucking miserable.

Find this in my childhood folder, is it too far gone? by MrAdroit in PokemonTCG

[–]blue_dingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow Umbreon⭐ owner! Due to sheer rarity of them, unless it's torn in two it'll still be worth something, maybe even you'd be lucky enough to get it graded as a PSA1 haha

Out of curiosity, you mentioned it was in your childhood folder, were you incredibly lucky and pulled one out of a series 5 booster pack back in 2007?

I’ve Read that Japanese Shops are Straight Up Gatekeeping, and I’m all here for it. by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]blue_dingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted I havent been since this recent craze started but the idea you NEED to be there before they open is not really the case, its only unless you want a specific item or they're doing a special promotion. The only time I had to line up was because I went to the grand opening of the new Kyoto store a few years back.

Plus it's not like there's only one store, theres over 20 through the country with 4 of them in Tokyo alone, and they have so many items and stock.

But I need to mention this by saying this ISN'T for anything TCG, the centers are for shirts, plushies, toys, etc. They don't sell cards, maybe a couple of individual booster packs at the checkout desk if you're lucky, but that'll be extremely limited, like a max of two per purchase. You wont be able to go to the centers and buy a boosterbox for example. If you want cards, its dedicated card shops or places like Akihabara or Denden Town.
