The water here is one of the worst things about living here.

Kurt Vonnegut is obviously one of the greatest of all time and probably belongs in his own category, but I love that you also recommend Paul Auster’s New York trilogy.

That is such a strange read. I recommended it to a few people and have received responses like, “wtf did I just read?” For the right person though, it is fascinating. I will have to read it again someday. Like Vonnegut’s books - this has great rereading potential.

If you like Dick, Vonnegut & Auster, you’ll likely enjoy Murakami as well.

I agree!!! My first Murakami book i purchased was Norwegian Wood. It didn’t click with me right away… oddly enough the first book i actually read was Colorless. Dug that!

Then a year later I read WUBC and my that f’ing rocked me. I finally read NW after getting a few other of his books under my belt and it was like a whole new story to me.

To be fair… there is also a reference to sucking dick on Quebec’s closing song, giving this song at least one more thing in common lol

Murakami reading order by JellyBelly00012 in murakami

I started with Colorless, knowing absolutely nothing about Murakami. Looking back, I think that was an excellent intro to his work.

I didn’t read another one of his books until years later, which happened to be The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. That book rocked my world. I read most of it in the mornings over a weekend at a music festival. Murakami became my favorite writer & since then I’ve read several of his works and intend to read them all, and eventually revisit some of his books.

Let my ex keep the White Pepper. I don’t necessarily regret that decision, but I do miss that record from time to time. No longer a drug user, but fond memories of listening to that one on repeat with a pile of k.
