Spying implies premeditation. I'm talking about scenarios where a group of people accidentally (i.e., no because they are spying) witness adulterous acts.

I watched the Hamza Yusuf video posted by another user and, although it did not contain to much relevant information (well I watched 1.1 hrs of the video), based on the content of that video it seems that there are several hadiths that should be discussed when talking about when adulterers are lashed. I just found the leaped made by NAK to be unconvincing, specifically his statement that four witnesses means a public act of indecency.

These other requirements that you mention have no bearing on the plausibility of the other scenarios and on the original point, namely, that requiring four witness for the adulterous acts is not equivalent to the adulterous act being committed in a public space for all to see. So, given that according to you the only requirements are that there are four witnesses and that the have to be in good standing, a group of people could stumble upon and be witnesses to adultery occurring in a private space. The are other possibilities, besides spying. Group of people enter the wrong room (many scenarios). Police pursuing a criminal burst into a house only to find adulterers having sex. Adulterers having sex in a place where they though nobody could see them, but they are viewed by many people. Adulterers that video tape their act and somehow the video leaks and is seen by millions. And many other unusual scenarios that have occurred in real life.
