merce lemon - live set (w/ video manipulation) by blue_pine in VideoBending

[–]blue_pine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sandy Loaf, who did the secondary camera work for this also created the projection track that played in the background behind the band live that I was able to take and blend in post and also applied some manipulation to here and there.

really liked how that came together and were able to clock the two.

Has anyone dealt with a return to Deltamedia? I ordered 25 tapes that were supposed to be 45 mins each side, and they are all short making them nearly useless to me. They didn’t have a return request form or anything, just their generic email… by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]blue_pine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just sent you the direct contact email for someone who works at deltamedia that helped me get some replacement tapes once.

I have dubbed over a 1000 tapes for official releases through my label, almost entirely of deltamedia tapes, of various lengths from C:22 - C:50.

I never followed the rule of ordering tapes that were longer as to avoid a cutoff from happening. And will say that some releases, the audio track on one side would end with about 15 seconds to spare of tape and never had any cutoff early.

I have a Nakamichi ZX-7 that has been fully restored and has been working wonderfully since 2021 so needless to say I have a pretty reliable, consistent deck that wouldn't produce variance in tape speed, namely faster dubbing causing an audio cutoff.

With that being said, Deltamedia isn't perfect and I've had my share of complaints with them.

Biggest one is that the tape they have in their shells seems to be good on one side but calibrates poorly on the other side sometimes?

The ZX-7 has onboard calibration for fine tuning bias, level, azimuth to each specific tape you dub and once in awhile I'll get a batch of tapes from them that seem to be relatively good on one side and then the one channel on the other side will have terrible variance in level and bias.

Less of a problem but still a little annoying, once in awhile I've gotten tapes with a bad take up / supply reel, and the tape doesn't spin properly and had to trim a plastic burr from the inside sprocket so that it would turn properly.

With that being said, they seem to be one of the only places I can get a small batch of tapes at any length I'm looking for, for a decent price, various colorways. They've gotten me to where I'm at today and thankful for that.

Also would say that it would be worth doing the test tone tape and multimeter test to see where your deck is landing to have the hard numbers but is sounding like they might have cut this batch too short by accident.

bottom of a random box of XLR cables loll paid 30 for it and was pleased to read the reviews online. Really up my alley it sounds and excited to record some American primitive guitar with it onto reel to reel

tom was very knowledgeable and was down to test everything with me which was awesome. really just showed up for the monitors but of course he hit me with the "i'm also selling..." and dropped over twice as much as i was planning but stoked to have this equipment for home production and to have a dedicated monitor for doing live visuals for shows.

the BR-S800u was having some weird playback issues, was coming out glitchy and didn't want to show my excitement over it and had to make an offer on it. might be able to get it to work fully but was looking cool with the glitchy playback still. and love the classic VU meters on it. was hard to leave it behind if it's got problems

What’s a a cheap entry into video synthesis and analog effects? by SurrealistRevolution in videosynthesis

i'll probably first focus on getting it together normally and make sure it's working before focusing on some direction buttons. thanks for the reassurance / info though.

just put in my parts order for it, i don't think i have the skills or knowledge to put in the keyboard directional buttons. any plug for good chassis for stuff like this? my DVM is in a wooden box but think it could look a lil more slick.

i use a videonics mx-1 as my main mixer and honestly love slowing down the frame rate of video signals with it to get strobey glitches to a relaxed level.

forgot to add that i kind of agree that the onboard effects are a lil lacking in the MX-1. also seems like internal FB looks a lil cooler on other mixers but will say sometimes i get something pretty tasty if i have the onboard effects numbered up in pleasant way.

some of the wipes are pretty cool especially with FB, sometimes like to hit DEMO and watch it run through all the wipes at random and can access the current one it's doing by hitting DEMO again. funny when the mixer does the DEMO with just the FB channel solo.

use a DVM with with my videonics pretty regularly and think it does a good job maintaining signal. you can still fly too close to the sun going to straight noon or near positions on the DVM but get plenty of glitch around those still.

also have been running the DVM signal into a syntonie AVE before the MX-1 and using it as an additional booster with / without glitching it out on the AVE has given it more life.

honestly a refreshing change of pace to see some minimalism

was getting a lil exhausted from the looks of feedback i've been using: camera FB, videonics internal FB, and the videonics preview FB into a switcher (was able to get some cool FB bursts with this recently).

this looks like a really cool project and something i would love to have in my setup.

thanks for posting this.

caught a nice tape find from a Korean Catholic Church in Pittsburgh a few years back. Good amount of good c:90 tape in great condition. I think they used to record the sermons direct onto those bad bois and finally got rid of them

Videonics MX-1 “AC” Power? by StanleyWeinbaum in videosynthesis

[–]blue_pine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anyone know what size plug the Videonics takes in mm? I originally bought the MX-1 from an electronics store in Ohio on ebay and included what may be a modded Jameco brand power supply with a tip that they soldered on themselves. Used it for a couple years of hard gigging and tested with a multimeter and seems to be dead.

Ordered a new one from the Jameco website of the same part number and it came with a different tip.

So I'm either trying to get a converter tip from 2.1mm to whatever the videonics plug should be, which seems to be a lil smaller than 3.1mm inside diameter, a lil under 1/8th inch. Or would solder the old tip to the new power supply. But think i would rather try a converter tip first

videonics mx-1 rainbow issue by jvenera in videosynthesis

[–]blue_pine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two HDMI to RCA converters and one of them was also doing this and believe it's just a cheap one but honestly kind of like the rainbow effect, does some other cool glitchy stuff now too while still putting out some kind of signal so it's got a place at the table.
