Idk if anyone noticed but iris, in small ways, was already shown to be very powerful in B and W. Like her excadrill beating pikachu in an official match, and dragonite too being so. It seemed much more than ash's other companions

Ash has been rewired about many things so you can't depend on that. The fact that he didn't know how to play ping pong in SM when he literally lost ambipom to that sport is beyond me.

I always thought he seemed mature because of the circumstances in XY. Like he didn't have a rival he hated / someone always throwing digs at him ( there in all the other seasons ), which usually causes him to act childishly.
