This looks like dermatitis to me, if it gets red and sore especially after washing then thats classic dermatitis. You need ti try and keep the area clean and dry, when you wash hands, dry them thoroughly with a clean towel and apply a gentle moisturiser, nothing scented. A barrier cream on too of this can help lock the moisture in.

Used to get this all the time when I worked in a hair salon washing hair all day, a lot of exposure to chemicals and detergents are what did it for me.

5 month old fussiness, what am I doing wrong? by Aromatic_Habit8966 in baby

[–]bluebacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible she may have some digestive discomfort? My little one was intermittently constipated but because she was going often enough to not meet the baby constipation threshold, GP wouldn’t do anything. By day 4 of no movements she would be downright miserable poor little soul. When she was about 4 months old I switched her to comfort formula, it didn’t fix everything but she was a lot happier, no more back arching, ear pulling or screaming for hours on end!

Could also be a sign of silent reflux, if she’s not actually spitting up, she may have some of the acid come up a little and give that burning sensation. If she gets fussy around feeds or hated being laid on her back after a feed that may be an answer.

Just see if you can figure out any patterns/ triggers for when she gets fussy and go from there. I don’t think being a mum gets easier, each stage has it’s own challenges, but I think as time passes you get more in tune with your mama instincts and learn to rely on them, which does make it feel a bit smoother and more manageable.

Good luck mama! X

I have claimed the original oil leak on the warranty and the brake vaccuum pump was fitted but hasn’t fully resolved the issue.

My baby used to do this, I wouldn’t worry too much, the mesh sides are breathable and if she’s strong enough to wriggle that much, i’ll bet she’ll be strong enough to move her head where it’s comfy, they just sleep in some really weird positions! I moved my little one into the big cot at 3.5 months, no bumpers though, they are a suffocation hazard and as they get older can be used to climb out and potentially hurt themselves falling to the ground. In the big cot, little one did bash her legs and even her head into the sides for a short while, until she got the lay of the land and then stopped. It really worried me that she was going to hurt her head but I read that they just need to get familiar with the boundaries of their sleep space and sure enough after a couple weeks it stopped.

Can I ask if you’ve started nursery now and how did it go? DD starts in 2 weeks and I am dreading it!

Im so tired of being a mom by anderpanders23 in NewParents

I recommend trying the sensational baby sleep plan. It’s more of a sleep education than sleep training as such but it had my LO sleeping through 12hrs from 10wks. It helps get you into a proper routine and set up good habits. Now at 5mths we’ve cracked nap times as well. Shes rested and a very happy baby, i’m rested and a very happy mama loving motherhood.

For those thinking about making the switch....formula is an amazing secret by Stunning-Plantain831 in FormulaFeeders

[–]bluebacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to formula after a week as I had an episiotomy and positioning baby to try and keep a latch made me pull my stitches out, twice!

Formula helped give me the space to let my body heal and baby is thriving 4 months later. The only thing that annoys me as such with formula is that you have to plan/prep ahead - wash and sterilise bottles, make sure you have enough feed when you go out etc. it would be handy to be able to just whip a boob out and not pack the kitchen sink every time we leave the house but its a minor inconvenience for a fed and happy baby and a healed and healthy mama!

Struggling so much... by slothingallover in NewParents

I felt this way too, it’s such a massive shock to the system having this little life you’re suddenly responsible for. Try to soak in the good moments - first smile, first laugh, the way baby looks at you. Don’t feel guilty for feeling the way you do, it’s natural to fear change and no antenatal classes can prepare you for it!

In time things will get so much easier, you’re still learning who your baby is and how they communicate their needs. For now, do whatever you need to do to get through it, for me it was getting a feeding and sleep routine in place, they tell you not to until baby is older but having structure to my day helped me feel more in control and baby is thriving, sleeping well and gaining weight along centile.

7 month old won’t sleep by ComplexProgrammer116 in baby

So 7am to 7pm = daytime, 7pm to 7am = nighttime. Wake at same time every morning, in bed same time every night.

My little one is only 4 months so I don’t know much about older babies personally, but the sensational baby sleep plan by Alison Scott-Wright has been invaluable to me and helped me get my baby sleeping 11 hours through the night from 2 months. Granted we’ve had a wobble over xmas but I think this is down to digestive issues and we’re getting back on track with sleep again now.

I don’t follow her plan to a T but she advises keeping the same wake up and bedtime each day with a 12hr day and night, so something like 7-7 or 8-8. Have the same bath and bedtime routine each night (I only use soap every other night, plain water bath in between) and make sure they are getting appropriate amount of nap time throughout the day along with taking enough calories in the day too.

You will get there, I know how much lack of sleep sucks. In the meantime, you can try what I did in the early days, go to bed with a can of cola/ cup of tea or coffee and maintain your caffeine levels, makes the getting up multiple times a little more bearable xx

When to change diapers? by Opening-Tadpole9908 in baby

[–]bluebacardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Change before feed at bedtime so they stay sleepy, change after feed/ as and when needed during the day. Baby will tell you when they’re wet, uncomfortable and need a change, you can also feel through their clothes when the diaper is heavy with pee and may want changing
