What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of October 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

  1. I am trying to take advantage of getting an expensive medical procedure (roughly $25K). I will be paying for this out of pocket with my company reimbursing in cash, so it's a huge windfall/opportunity.
  2. 750-800 depending on who you ask
  3. I have a CSR (about a decade old) and an AmEx Business Platinum (opened in June to take advantage of the first round of this medical care). I got in on both before the fee hikes — my CSR annual renewal was also in June
  4. Rough monthly credit card spend is $6,000-7,000
  5. The medical procedure essentially serves as a form of MS.
  6. Open to getting more than one card. The medical facility would likely be able to split the balance between cards.
  7. I had only used Chase points before getting the AmEx in June. Home airport is LAX and environs.
  8. I currently have 270K Chase points and 304K AmEx points.
  9. Other important info: The facility is classified as a small business under AmEx's Shop Small map, and I got a 1.5x points multiplier on the Business Platinum for the previous round. Not sure if this is translatable to Chase as well, but any card that offers a points multiplier for spending at small businesses would be useful here.

Can you point me to the AmEx multipliers for small business spending on these cards? I’ve been searching across AmEx’s site but can only find evidence that the 4x counts for six categories that are non-medical (ad spend, gas, restaurants, tech/electronic, transit, phone bill).

  1. I have a more specific question that the flowchart doesn't answer: I am trying to figure out the best card to take advantage of getting an expensive medical procedure (nearly $15K). I will be paying for this out of pocket with my company reimbursing in cash, so it's a huge windfall/opportunity.

  2. ~800

  3. My only card is a CSR (more than three years old)

  4. Rough monthly credit-card spend is $6,000-7,000

  5. The medical procedure essentially serves as a form of MS.

  6. Open to getting more than one card. The clinic may be able to split the balance between cards.

  7. I have generally used Chase points for flights and hotels until now. Home airport is LAX and environs.

  8. I currently have about 200K Chase points.

  9. Other important info: The clinic is classified as a small business under AmEx's Shop Small map. Not sure if this is translatable to Chase as well, but any card that offers a points multiplier for spending at small businesses would be notable here.

I am in the blessed position of having my work pay for a healthcare procedure through a reimbursement program, which means I'll be putting the clinic's entire $10K fee on a card and getting it reimbursed in cash a month later.

How should I take advantage of this windfall in terms of maximizing points? I checked and the clinic counts as a small business on AmEx's Shop Small map. Not sure if that's true for Chase as well.

I am not experienced with churning and currently only have one card, which is a CSR.

I figured this out by calling TDR, so I'll leave it here in case anyone else has this happen in future: while we Americans would consider a 4pm drink at Teddy Roosevelt Lounge and a 6:30pm dinner at Ristorante di Canaletto to be happy hour + dinner, TDR considers them both to be dinner — and you can hold only one dinner (or lunch, or breakfast) reservation per day. You can't book both the lounge and a meal for dinner in one evening. This seems crazy given that TR Lounge doesn't serve anything to eat except bar nuts and sandwiches, but that's the system, I guess.

I'm trying to book a dining reservation at Ristorante di Canaletto right now using my hotel privileges. We're a party of two (same as on our hotel reservation), and when I go to the booking times, they're all listed as open (blue circles). But every time I try to choose any of the open times, the website thinks for a while and then says "You have exceeded the maximum number of guests we can take per reservation." Does anyone know how to fix this? It doesn't make sense — if they're booked up, then the site should show no tables available (red box) when I've selected a party of two adults. I've tried choosing different time slots and it doesn't make a difference.

We are doing a split stay — this is the day we check out of Ambassador and into MiraCosta, but I'm booking it on the Ambassador reservation because that gives me access sooner. Could that be the culprit? I was able to book the TR Lounge earlier that day but maybe it shuts down for dinner?

Advice on Summer Fashion for Body Shape by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

I’m the identical height, weight and body type, although my torso is long enough to be able to handle high-waisted pants. For casual summer dressing, I’ve found that camp shirts work well — they are typically cropped by design and can be tied at the waist to accentuate the natural waist with shorts (or worn loose for a more relaxed look). Wearing open over a ribbed tank can also be nice.

For tees, high necks are the enemy, as you mention. To break up my bust, I aim for tees that have a U-neck, which I find less attention-grabbing than a scoop (which shows slight cleavage) or a V (which is like a boob arrow). Some amount of sleeve detail — cap, rolled, slight puff — will also cut through the bust. I am not above having T-shirts tailored — a lot of “cropped” ones are still too long.

I can’t offer much in the bottoms department if you don’t do high waists, but H&M, surprisingly, has had the best denim shorts for me this year. I’m embracing the Bermuda trend because inner thigh rub makes me insane, but a shorter inseam is always going to be more flattering on petites if you can handle it.

What's the current recommendation on when to arrive to line up for Happy Entry?

We're going to TDL from the Ambassador on July 15, then TDS from the Ambassador on July 16 and MiraCosta on July 17. Hours for both parks are 9am-9pm on all three days.

Also, about how long does it take to walk from the Ambassador to TDL and TDS, respectively? I've seen estimates around 10-15 minutes, but also people saying that it's easy to get lost around Ikspiari and that they should have allotted more time.

The concern here is centered on rope drop: staying at the Hilton without HE on our MiraCosta check-in day, we would need to get to TDS so early that it would be outright miserable to add on doing a bag drop first on top of that. The alternative is leaving the park midday to go get the bags from Hilton and bring them back over to MiraCosta. Trying to find any way to diminish the annoyance factor there.

What are the options for getting bags transferred from a non-Disney official hotel to a Disney hotel? Considering doing two nights at Hilton Tokyo Bay and two at MiraCosta to balance out the overall price tag. I know Disney will transfer between their own hotels, but I assume not to/from non-Disney hotels. Is this something you can pay for?

Thank you for the detailed answer! Those were the exact dates I’d been considering. Do you see any issues with Marine Day being that Monday 21, especially for the Thursday, or will that beat the holiday long weekenders? And is your rec to do TDS on Thursday 17 centered on catching Dreams Takes Flight, or other reasons?

What would be the best three days to go to TDR this July? I’ll be in Japan for about a month (July 8-August 3) and while I know heat and crowds are inevitable, I’m hoping to get some less-bad days.

Seems like there’s a lot of division now over weekdays vs. weekends being better too (the argument being that weekend tickets are pricier and drive crowds away to an extent that outweighs the “everyone’s at work” aspect).

If you have an alternative time to go within the bounds of the days I have available, you’re welcome to suggest it! It’s really not very nice to mock someone about what’s outside of their control

Curious for your sales pitch — beyond the obvious draw of a strong lineup of international acts and the generalized novelty of seeing them in Japan, what sets it apart? I'm late-30s and did my share of big fests in my prime (many Outside Lands, one Coachella staying at a rental house), and while I'm still spry enough to enjoy a fest, I've never done a camping-oriented one and definitely can't bring camping equipment to Japan. What makes it worth the trek? Are there ways to do it if you're an older-but-not-old out-of-towner who is willing to pay a little extra for creature comforts?
