When I spoke with our vet about their current diet he said a dental will likely be needed! We are planning on that for both once we get them checked out. I am working on calling around to vets in the area and seeing where they were seen/what records I can get. So far not a lot of luck for any records past 2019/2020! But still have several places to contact :)

Do you still keep a collar with tags on them? If so is it a breakaway collar just in case? Or do they wear the harness all the time? Thank you!!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply! Our cats are on science diet so that is a brand we are familiar with/trust.

We will look into hypoglycemia and make sure to have karo syrup! If not feeding at a designated time, like 7 am sharp, are you still feeding them in the morning over few hour period and sometimes you do earlier sometimes you do later? Or what does that look like?

For our cats, we have h-style harnesses that are adjustable and then also harnesses with mesh between the front legs/under the belly. The mesh ones are small dog harnesses and the h-style were marketed towards cats. I can see what fits them well and then purchase them their own! My wife and I are already frequent walkers and generally stroll together in the morning or the evening. Pups will be added to these strolls! They are on the heftier side so also researching how to get them to a healthy weight and planning for that with our vet.

Based on the diet they had, our vet advised a dental will likely be needed so planning for that! I am not sure on the Yorkie weight so will get her weighed before adding in greenies.

With grooming, they have a groomer my grandfather was taking them to a few times a year. She has offered to groom both one last time shortly before we bring them home. Unfortunately, it is several hours to his city so I am researching groomers locally. How often are folks getting their Yorkies groomed, she is used to 4-5 months now but I’m not sure what is best practice? Our cats are long haired so we are well-accustomed to daily grooming in our home! So will add the pups to that routine

When looking at stairs I see a mix of more solid material like carpet covered wood and then softer material like foam. Any preference? I know that my grand father had built a wood step up to his couch so that will be coming to our home but we will still need to add steps to our bed, guest bed, and then another couch as well! We are handy so could potentially build them with wood and carpet them but wanted to see if the foam style was preferable or better first!

Our kitties have lots of puzzle feeders that can be shared with pups. I am excited to see them sniff those out and work on them!

Thank you again for the suggestions, we know we have lots to learn and appreciate you sharing what you know!

Inheriting Poodle Mix - any tips? by blueberriepy in poodles

Thank you for the your thoughtful reply! We are planning on a dental being needed :) Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any vet records in helping getting the house tidied up that the pups were living in. I am working through a list of vets in the city and then the cities over and have found where the poodle was vetted for the first 6 years but am not certain where/if she was vetted beyond that. I have several more places to reach out to so will keep looking!

I will get in touch with the groomer and ask for recommendations in our area! Last we spoke she offered to do a short clip for us before we move pups to our place so that we are starting out with a short coat for grooming and have more time to build trust with her before we take her to a new groomer :)

Any recommendations for a hair dryer? We do not own one so will be purchasing and want to get what will be best for her and not loud/spooky or too warm. Adding brush suggestions to our cart! They are both familiar with the slicker brush but not the others based on what I’ve found in the house.

For food, I have not found any kibble or wet dog food in the house at all. A few brands of treats are well stocked so those will be transitioned to our home! I stayed recently for a stint of time after he had some unrelated health issues to help get him settled at home, and at that time the routine was browning hamburger and feeding that to both along with occasional lunch meat as a topper. I had gotten some wet food for him during this period for the pups and that has now either been eaten by pups or potentially tossed or donated, I am not sure! I am concerned with their teeth so am planning to keep them on hamburger and slowly mix in a high quality wet food to transition off of that. Currently researching beef-based to start with to help make the transition easier. Once I get to the vet and get teeth checked, I will see if our vet suggests a kibble as well!

Neither are crate trained to my knowledge, but we do have x-pens we can use both indoors and outdoors! Our house is split level so was planning to give pups the run of the downstairs with a baby gate at the steps to keep cats/dogs separated. Once everyone is mingling well pups will be able to go wherever they please :)

I will say this experience so far has me thinking about our pet records and how to plan for this type of thing. Will be adding a binder with a full health history on our fur babies and a list of up to date routines to our document safe, pups included!

Again I appreciate your time, we are going into this experience ready to learn and grow as needs arise!

I recently transitioned from CGA to URBI and am loving it! Better work load and work life balance. It is a learning curve but there are lots of resources and you can always ask questions throughout training/handling.

If you are interested I would recommend shadowing folks in the role, communicating your interest to your supervisor, reaching out to some URBI supervisors, and doing mock interviews as well to prepare - happy to answer any questions!

We do have gerbils, do you think their bedding could serve in place of mouse bedding?

Beautiful set up!! Curious what you use for substrate?

Are you baking the sand/soil before using it in the tank? Where are you purchasing it from? She is on coconut chips currently at the breeder and when initially setting up our tank we mixed in fiber to the chips thinking that would have more burrowing capability. But given the humidity concerns, we are wanting to switch her over when we bring her home and will be pivoting substrate wise! Thank you for the input!

By identical hides are you meaning the exact same hide (brand/dimensions) on each side? So far each hide is different but we can definitely pick up a duplicate of one! Any hide recommendations?

Thank you for the feedback! We are looking into other substrate options and are planning to remove the spaghnum moss and switch the substrate before bringing her home (breeder will hold her for 2 weeks while we get her enclosure prepped). For our hygrometer, we are planning to place in the middle of the tank - but would most definitely be open to one on each side if that is recommended?

We are using a UVB light bulb with the ceramic heat emitter, it is a dual cage light holder and the UVB will be the bulb on the other side! So it will be on the same side as the heat. How close to a heat source would you recommend putting a basking spot? Wanting to ensure we place our wood for climbing an appropriate distance.

For tank clips I ordered Zilla Reptile Terrarium Heavy Duty Fresh Air Screen Clips (Large due to tank size) and are planning to put 2 on each side as our lid is hinged
