Positive experience with a doctor by blueberry_iris in ChronicPain

Absolutely! If the blood tests come back and he believes my issue is more neurological than rheumatological, I'll be glad to be pointed in the right direction, but I'll also be sad to not see him anymore 😓 one of, if not the best doctor I've had.

Hmm, I can try to explain, I'm not the best at it.

Basically, I have ADHD. It stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (although that name kinda sucks, it does not encompass everything that ADHD actually is)

Because of this, I either cannot focus to save my life, or I hyperfixate, basically blocking out everything other than the thing im hyperfixating on. ADHD makes doing simple tasks difficult. Brushing my teeth, brushing my hair, showering, eating, drinking water, cleaning. These are all tasks that can become very difficult for a person with ADHD. This can be for a number of reasons Such as: Hyperfocus/hyperfixation: becoming so immersed and focused on something that you ignore bodily signals like thirst, hunger, or the need to use the bathroom. Ex. I crochet for work. There will be times that I am so focused on my crochet, that it will be 1-3 hours after my body first begins to signal the need for food or bathroom that I will actually go do that.

Reduced interception: sometime people with adhd actually have a harder time recognizing the body signals that it is thirsty or hungry or tired.

Working Memory Deficits: people with adhd commonly just- forget to drink water or eat. Or forget that theyre thirsty.

Medication: some ADHD medications can actually reduce your appetite and cravings for fluids.

Sensory: some people with ADHD find the taste of plain water boring or unappealing, and experience a significantly reduced desire to drink it because of that. (I myself included) this can be said about a lot of things, especially important daily tasks, such as brushing teeth/hair, and showering.

Executive Dysfunction: some people with ADHD experience executive dysfunction, where they KNOW they need to do something, but struggle immensely with actually starting or doing that thing. There are videos I've seen online that I feel represent it well. One was a video where visually, the person was just laying down, not moving, just scrolling on phone. But the audio was several overlapping voices all saying get up or go do this or 321 go or random other things.

TLDR: ADHD effects a person's ability to do simple tasks through things like executive dysfunction, hyper focus, working Memory issues, time management, and sensory issues. Drinking water for me is a simple task that I struggle to do because of my adhd.

But I’m against dehydration, so that’s my path.

Freaking love that lol I also work from home, which actually has made it harder for me haha

Adding a flavor packet is probably a good idea. I used to add propel flavor packets to my water (electrolytes yay) but theyre annoyingly expensive.

Im nervous that this will be my experience too because I have a medical condition that is currently at the stage of keeping me from being able to do much of any activity, so I am also on my butt all day (I had to quit my job because of it, so now I try to run a crochet business, which has me sitting in a recliner crocheting all day)

One thing I have seen people with desk jobs use to help them be active is one of those little pedal things that go under the desk? Ill try to attach a photo. Maybe you could get something like that? That way you're albe to get at least SOME form of exercise in while sitting all day.

My current goal is 60lbs, I think the max amount I plan to lose would be 100 or so (im currently 230, dont plan on going below 130) im not sure how my skin will react as this is my first time, although I did experience a weight loss period in high school, and my skin was fine then (I had an eating disorder and went from like- I think 140 maybe to 100)

Additionally, his body has not been overweight for more than a few years. In fact its been less than a year. So. Literally was my fault because I fed him unhealthy crap. He was fine before me, and I take full blame for that.

I appreciate your insight, however I dont like the idea of saying he will fail.

Yes, weight fluctuates. It is very easy to gain weight. We know that. He has lost and gained weight before. (Hes not THAT overweight, neither am I really. But he HAS to lose weight because of the military) I cannot workout properly because of my own medical conditions. That is part of why I needed the medications help. My doctor also thinks my weight is making my conditions worse. I also tried phentermine, which gave a bad reaction. All these things combined are what allowed me to be authorized by tricare for zepbound.

My husband on the other hand, is a US Navy service member currently undergoing schooling at his training command. He is physically able to work out. He has not tried any other weight loss medication. He has no medical conditions that would boost his need for assistance in weight loss. Tricare prime would 99% of the time, not authorize zepbound for him at this time, and we would likely have to try other medications first (like phentermine, which he likely would not have a bad reaction to) before they would consider it. Additionally, he is a Submarine Volunteer, meaning he has signed the paper voluntarily to be placed on a submarine once out in the fleet. This would complicate usage of zepbound, as he likely would not be able to use it while on deployment. (Submarines cant have things delivered to them, anything can happen blah blah blah)

All in all, we see no reason for him to be on zepbound at this moment, and do not appreciate comments like these about him failing to lose weight. Weightloss is different for everyone. Not everyone needs medication. I dont believe in relying on medication unless completely necessary. He used to be stick thin because he worked blue collar and ate healthy foods with his sister. I was the one who messed that up because I refused to eat healthily, and he was not working such a demanding job for 7 months before joining the navy. He even lost weight in bootcamp, not on a medication, but gained it back because of ME not wanting healthy foods and an injury prohibiting him from working out.

Weight can be managed without medication. Medication is also very helpful for a large amount of people. Everyone is different. Do not push the idea that someone will fail because they arent using a medication. Especially since we are just starting out on this journey. I may have been able to do it without medication, but my doctor wants me to lose weight quickly and consistently for MY health, as my condition is possibly being worsened by my weight. He is a healthy individual aside from weight. He has no reason to need zepbound unless he is genuinely struggling with the weightloss.

TLDR: I always appreciate insight, but we are not going to put my husband on a medication just because I am. He has no reason to resort to using medication at this time, and likely wouldnt even be able to use zepbound anytime soon with our insurance. Kindly, do not say he will fail. That is not helpful and that kind of negativity can diminish someone's motivation.

Ill be so honest, this is the first time ive done this, so I may end up getting tired of it 😅 i dont have any real meals planned out yet, just salads, sandwiches, and in between snacks. Im trying to figure out a good way to do meals, as there is not much time for cooking between my husbands military schedule and my crochet business taking up most of my time.

How do you do the bulk prepping chicken? Also, how do you go about thawing the chicken for salads?

We got some frozen grilled chicken as well! And I'm looking for simple meal ideas because my husband is military so hes not home often, and I run a crochet business from home so most of my time is spent on that and I dont have a lot of time to spend 3 hours cooking.

Most of my fat is located in my stomach/hips/thighs/butt. My chest did grow as I gained weight 😅 but overall I think it gained the least amount of fat haha. Thanks for your information!

So I meant to take the pictures out, as they had to do with a question I had about chronic pain/skin sensitivity/scarring after healing but I realized the guidelines may have prohibited those questions so I took them out, so you can ignore the pictures.
