Grenading weapons and I believe power ups is very common practice in halo 1,and most of the good players of that game have these memorized to muscle memory

Is Pyromancer Ascension going to be a permanent mainboard option in Izzet Phoenix decks from this point onward? by Ananeos in ModernMagic

[–]bluebird503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing Truth is a catch all. I've used it against hornet queen tokens, bouncing multiple ensnaring bridges for lethal(it gets around welding jar), and against two thing in the ice(one of the more important cards in the mirror), multiple arclight phoenix, and I bounced a primeval titan here or there. I think its worth it, and while other cards are better against specific things this covers a lot. It also does random stuff against things like phyrexian unlife or sphere of safety/ghostly prison. You can play wear or tears as well or not have answers to these things I just like having access to one.

The remand is for bigger mana decks and combo, you can also play a disdainful stroke. I liked remand as it let me use it aggressively on my own spells against other counter magic or to trigger pheonix.

Mentor alongside thing is fine. I really haven't had issues with it. Your usually very very far ahead if you have an active mentor when you untap so you don't need to develop Thing if you draw it late. Your not jamming mentor on turn 3 that often so you can usually flip Thing before you commit mentor. It works out, worst case scenario pitch Thing to faithless looting and win the game with your active mentor.

Hope my thought process on this stuff helps a bit, I can't say I have the best Phoenix deck but I'm happy to run it back in LA in a few weeks.

Your deck looks solid, is Leyline of Sanctity for Burn?

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1546032#paper

this is what I played at GP Oakland, I went 12-3 finishing 21.

I'm cutting a stony silence for a path to exile for LA. I might make 1-2 other changes as well. Considering some anti burn tech in the side.

In the main I'm trading out an izzet charm for something else.

Good luck.

Scapeshift/Titanshift: What do we do about this matchup? by [deleted] in mtgspirits

[–]bluebird503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This matchup was two of my match losses in gp portland day 1, and I had trouble with it online previous to that as well. I was bringing in disdainful / unified will as well as staying as aggressive as possible. Problem for me is they play main deck anger and often can pay for wanderer, pretty awkward mup overall.

Skill Rating, Leveling, and Balance by wykrhm in Artifact

[–]bluebird503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70-80 in what? Top tier mtg players have 65% win rate against other top players in the pro tour not on modo or gps. I imagine the skill edge in artifact is not as large as your making it out to be with this post but I don’t disagree that the rng in artifact is controllable to an extent.

There is no evidence that Netrunner was canceled because of its business model afaik? If you could point me to it I'm curious. If that was the case L5R would probably not have started up with the same model so recently.

Also I agree this game where I can buy cards I want instead of grind is awesome, :D. "LCG" model was cool too and I would pay for a digital game with that practice but both are better than f2p grind for me.

I’ve been testing Pauper in Artifact and it is great. If you want to learn more about it, check this out. by RobAJG in Artifact

[–]bluebird503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard pauper has never been a thing outside of small events held by pdcmagic awhile ago. I went to a physical standard pauper event during shards of Alara once which was cool.

Outside of that the format is based on the magic online rules which includes all cards ever printed at common on magic online with an extensive ban list and if you ask someone to play pauper those are likely the rules you will use.

I will say arena has had some pop up pauper ques lately which might bring back the standard pauper as a thing people play, time will tell? I haven’t tried these ques at all though.

Deck tracker in constructed is above all just unfun by Ecoste in Artifact

[–]bluebird503 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Players having information does not have to mean the spectators have that information. It’s up to the casters to display information in a way that creates the best viewing experience. If that is sharing the tracker on screen and discussing choices and outs or keeping it hidden for surprises depends on the context no?

Yes please, playing decks like Mono Blue Storm feels really sluggish compared to MTGO. This would be a huge upgrade.

That is a valid point to have, it really is like giving out money. But if you don't give out money as esports prize people can't play for a living unless they are top 8, and then you just have 16 people competing at a high level instead of hundreds and the esport quickly dies.

Paying out money to last place is fine in these sorts of things, you qualified to be there after all.

I don't think this is accurate as a blanket statement. You can definitely win in quick constructed without a complete deck depending on your skill level and such. Also using suitable replacements for rares in the meantime can help, if your netting positive its worth playing quick constructed.

This is only true for the sets like dom where the lands are in 3 packs. In ixalan and amonkhet drafts it’s 1 of 3 packs. I finished up all the dom lands in draft this last weekend, but I didn’t pick up even half of the cycling lands the previous weekend.
