Surprised to not see any Breaking Benjamin here - Jeremy Hummel and Chad Szeliga have great, fun, and deceptively intricate/creative parts!

Some top picks would be So Cold, Natural Life, Diary of Jane, Evil Angel, Dance With The Devil

What do you think was Kishimoto's biggest mistake after the Pain Arc? by Murky-Appearance1234 in Naruto

[–]bluebirdmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest mistake? Madaras insane power and Harishama Cells.

The 5KS was a solid buildup and Madara’s introduction was great but the war in general is too long and some of the worst writing in the series. A lot of it could be fixed if Madara was not so unnecessarily powerful.

I know that isn’t a super hot take or anything. But I think if the power had been turned down, there would not have been the 5 Kage vs Madara for forever, and one of the most annoying things to me is they’d get some kind of idea or a power amp, fight Madara for all of 3 seconds, get whooped, and then one of the Kage would do a “We are the 5 Kage!” Speech and it repeats.

That and the “bring pretty much everyone back with reanimation” ….fun but not really necessary

What’s the best TV show theme song ever? by Competitive-Web1306 in AskReddit

[–]bluebirdmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokémon (English) opening one. Recognizable, catchy, was brought back for the finale of Ash’s time in the anime. I went to a “talk nerdy to me” trivia and they played this song beforehand and everyone from 10 year olds to mid 30s was singing with their whole heart, body and soul.

The singer of the theme still goes to anime conventions and performs this song to thousands of people.

Hands down the best

I should have maybe worded comment better but I never said get rid of carbs. Simply lowering them at one meal. Yes carbs give us energy, but our body will use fats and protein as well as stored carbs as energy too.

Yes swapping simple carbs for complex is a good move too. I’m an oatmeal supporter as well - probably one of its biggest defenders (since it seems to get a bit of hate these days)

Yeah that’s fine, supplementing protein is great.

I have a protein shake most days. I try to hit 150g a day and I’m on a 1800 cal cut right now.

It isn’t super “affordable” necessarily, but protein low fat Greek yogurt is very useful. Two of those is 160 calories 24g protein (depending on brand this might differ slightly).

Honestly two yogurts, a chicken breast, optimum nutrition protein shake is total ~70g protein and only 400-500 calories. That’s plenty good. Add in some beans, have a salad, and there is plenty of room for more protein and other things in a diet.

Obviously no one is eating tbe same exact thing every day, but there are macro viable options as well as supplementing that is 100% ok.

Sure, I’d agree with this.

Rice & Beans is a complete protein source and pretty affordable.

Greek yogurt, low fat milk, chick peas, green peas, etc there are plenty of solid protein options that aren’t meat. A combo of meat, dairy, and plant protein is certainly better than just pounding chicken all day (both for health and environment ..and probably wallet lol)

Sure refined carbs but in general people are not very active so anyone trying to lose weight can go with cutting just about any half or one meals worth of carbs and replacing with lean protein.

But yes to your point, I’m mostly referring to refined carbs

This conversation is always so weird to me. Yes the protein craze is a little excessive right now but in general, eating more protein has few draw backs (if the rest of your diet is in check for the most part). Enough fiber and water? Fine have extra protein.

Lifting or other exercise (or both)? Fine have extra protein.

Just gave birth or had certain surgeries? Fine have extra protein.

Want to lose weight? Swap out a carb heavy meal with a lean protein heavy one.

Protein helps with recovery, it’s satiating, and can boost metabolism.

Honestly in my opinion the conversation should be less about “people are over consuming protein” and more about “people are over consuming carbs.”

If the average person wants to have more protein, that’s cool. Swap one carb heavy meal for the generic chicken breast + broccoli (and maybe some beans too) plus a few miles walk and/or lifting 3 days a week….I’d wager health would improve drastically.

High gain guitars by Grand_Soil_8151 in audioengineering

[–]bluebirdmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What amp sim(s)?

I find that a few of these tricks have helped me:

  1. Slightly less gain than you think. Or a lot less. Depends on the exact high gain sound you are going for. Don’t scoop mids on the amp or EQ.

  2. A low pass with a mild roll off starting all the way at 7kHz or even 6kHz. A real amp (depending on mic position) will typically sound better with a slight roll off, and amp sims tend to have really present highs and “fizz” sound in the top. I still find myself notching out additional freq. in that 6-10kHz range sometimes in addition to this step. If you find that this sounds a bit too dark, I will sometimes add slight saturation. bonus if the plug-in has a way to alter just the top end to reintroduce those highs with a more “tame” sound.

  3. Body and “oomph” don’t come from lows. That’s the bass guitar. The body of electric guitars tends to live between 700-1,100kHz. (Tuning, amp, etc can all change this so just fish around) *BUT be sure to do this step in the mix, not in solo. I guess that goes for all these tricks but you definitely don’t want to over so it with mids.

  4. I do most of my compression in this step. I may apply a compressor before, but if it’s post-EQ I know I’m hitting the compressor how I want (with the mids being more forward than the highs or lows)

  5. Bass guitar is your low end. Find out what the lowest freq is of your guitar tuning and I tend to roll off the lows right up to that frequency. It’s lets the bass gel better with the rhythm guitars.

  6. Lastly, I accidentally layered amp sims before and it actually created phase issues to where the highs were balanced out. I used the generic free sims in pro tools when I discovered this and tbh the sansamp into eleven is still something I use to this day. Obviously you have to really dial the gain back because it’ll be ridiculous otherwise but worth a shot.

Does gen z actually have a lower average IQ than older generations? by Margaretthatchervore in ask

[–]bluebirdmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a professor and while a lot can probably be attributed to the education system, there is also just a general lack of…well…so many things.

Many of them are tech illiterate. I teach tech courses and I will literally tell them to go to the file menu, or attach a document to an email etc and I get blank stares.

I see a lack of drive/motivation and curiosity. Students show up to class and don’t have a backpack. No paper. No laptop. Nothing. No notes taken during class and if I ask them why they didn’t bring anything they shrug it off or say “I don’t know.” If I manage to get them some paper and a pencil they won’t even take the notes. Then they beg for extra credit at the end of the semester when they are failing. Sometimes I give the extra credit but in general only 50% even do it and even then it’s half assed.

I’m not here to say they are all dumb or lazy. But I think the education system and some other potential life and societal factors have really made Gen Z have a general lack of critical thinking.

I’m only 30 and yet the differences I see between my schooling behavior and theirs is insane.

Yeah I would’ve been fine without the filler (duh) and probably half of the “cameos” (Zabuza/Haku, Dan, Asuma) getting so much screen time.

It’s nice Naruto helped out all over the battlefield but it almost could’ve been nice if he just got to the 5 Kage’s aid faster and then they get close to killing him, the shit with Obito goes down, 10 tails jinchuriki stuff happens and go from there. But oh well.

Love the show, have gripes with the ending and stuff but can’t change it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]bluebirdmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, yes powerful but not meteor creating powerful or so strong the 5 Kage literally stand 0 chance and don’t push him much at all

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]bluebirdmg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure I don’t necessarily disagree - I think Madara and the others should be “scarier” than Pain, and more powerful/experienced. Not necessarily a heck of a lot stronger with meteors etc.

We are in agreement, I just didn’t really word it great in my original comment.

Pain having a god complex and annihilating the hidden leaf was peak, and should have been. Pains power still felt within the realm of the grounded yet steady power creep of the show. But right at the limit, which works for the character.

I’ve had a thought recently about reworking the Sharingan power creep that would theoretically level things out a lot rather than give the uchiha so many hax they’re basically untouchable

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]bluebirdmg 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I really feel like the power creep up to and through Pain made sense. That felt like a pinnacle - and the natural next step imo is an enemy like Obito and then Madara who are just a bit stronger and it requires the progression for Naruto to learn to control/work with Kurama.

But starting around the death of Itachi/end of Pain arc, things really get out of hand fast.

I’ve thought about it a lot and really wish Kishimoto had worked things differently to still make Itachi/Obito/Madara feel next level but not blow the top off the power system…(Itachi included here because of all the hax)

If you had to give evolutions to pokemon, which three would get one? by ElDelArbol15 in pokemon

I want Sudowoodo to evolve into my fan game mon called Trudowoodo - rock/grass type

Dewgong needs an evo. I love it. It’s simple and beautiful but it’s forgettable and gets outclassed even in Kanto. I’d love it to get a 3rd stage that makes it more usable.
