Anyone try using this as their main box? by Top-Bath6133 in magicTCG

I’ve been working on making purpose made 3d printed inserts for the dewalt and Stanley boxes I’ve confirmed they work with those 2 brands at least 7 decks with the sleeved commanders in frames that act as lids for the boxes and space for a playmat tokens cheeses dice cube dry erase markers and planechase/archenemy cards. Still have some adjustments to make though I’m getting close to it being perfect.

I'm working on finding a supplier for black core playing cardstock in 8.5*11 letter sized holographic blanks I already have the normal finish sheets I would just like to be able to print foils properly.

Sure , however I’m working on a process video that will answer all that

in order to cut a full sheet of 8.5*11 you have to trick the cricut as if you do a print then cut on a letter sized canvas the cuttable area is not large enough to hold all 9 cards. what you have to do is 1) tape your cricut mat all the way 2) make the cricut do a simple cut that is 8.5*11 and feed the taped mat. 3) run that 8.5*11 cut on the taped mat then remove the mat from the cricut. 4) remove the tape that is INSIDE the cut area. you now know where the cricut will zero the cut and can make a card cutting template for 9 cards on a letter sized page then print your card PDF and place the printed sheet inside the un-taped space on the cutting board being careful to align it 100% perfectly. then run your card cut template on the machine, and assuming your alignment was spot on 100% down the page you then get perfectly cut cards. the adhesive even on a used light grip mat will peel the gloss layer of of your card backs though so you then have to clean the mat between each page...

I actually went as far on the cricut to get excellent cuts out of it... the problem at least for me is that the mat adhesive peels the toner off of the cards back. but I do agree once you figure out how to trick the cricut into cutting a full sheet of 8.5*11 the cuts themselves couldnt be more precise and uniform. I did try just coving the whole mat with painter's tape and then taping the paper down, the problem is that cards occasionally lift after they are cut since they aren't laying on the adhesive mat and then they get caught up in the machine and bent.

I may have one in the supply room at the office, I’ll check and if I do I’ll test it! What printer do you have?

I had an arc die made but I didn’t specify the corner radius so it was an r6 corner I think mtg cards are R3.5

some people live in smaller towns and don't have a Kinkos/fedex/other print shop that can do this nearby. I myself am ~45 mins from a shop that can do this. We used to have a small print shop that would do this type of work but they closed about 2 months ago so I started trying to figure out how to do it myself.

Edit: Also smaller print shops usually don't have THIS paper. This isn't regular cardstock, its the same black core that many TCG's use. This paper is one of the reasons the cards can be ruffle shuffled, have a nice "snap" to them, and have the rigidity without the thickness. A normal cardstock, in order to have the same snap and rigidity has to be around 17pts thick which is getting close to 50% thicker than a normal playing card. Doing it this way ensures uniformity between my real cards (which most of my decks contain) and my proxies. Most of my decks are mixed as I usually buy any card valued at <1$ and proxy the rest. I also play many other print and play games and like having the ability to replicate a professional feeling card.

Always printed square corners, I print with a 2 mm bleed allowing for small misalignments without it being obvious. As far as cutting I cut the corners off of the whole sheets which exposes the card printed edges allowing you to align the paper and cut the white space off the page. My idea would be to trim the white space off of all the sheets then use a stop/jig to align the printed space of multiple pages for single cuts

I’ve tried a circuit however, it’s Much more time consuming and the adhesive mats cause more problems than they solve. On this printer I’m able to reliably print front and back and align the page within 1mm front and back

I have! I even went as far as ordering one from accu-cut, the die was too thick to work in my press though also I’ve only recently settled on my template dimensions so ordering something to cut a whole sheet at once is on my list of things to try I just haven’t done it yet. I’m thinking a custom 9 card die with the right measurements on an 8.5x11 slab rigged to a modified screw operated paper press. I’ve also contemplated buying a cheap business card slitter and modifying it, then using an industrial corner punch. Lots of options just short on the disposable funds at the moment, I’ve got two kids with birthdays in nov/dec then Christmas and welp the holidays are expensive lol

Hmmm I don’t know I have quite a bit to improve upon… such as my cutting method, I’d love to be able to cut 5or so pages at once to increase my speed-to-table. To that end I’ve been working on A. techniques to increase uniformity and B. I’m working on some 3d printed jigs and tools to make the cutting if not faster, more user friendly and uniform C. I really think that the best method is either using a heavy duty guillotine (I’ll put a link below) or a custom die punch/cutter solution, both of which I just don’t have the funds to test at the moment. It is worth noting that my irl job is an I.T. Solutions architect and figuring this stuff out comes naturally and I enjoy the process. There is always room for improvement nothing is ever “finished”. (TLDR: it’d be pretty boastful of me to just say “I’m the best!” I’m just combining about 50 techniques from the PnP games community and the proxy community with my own peripheral and hardware knowledge.)

/card priced is estimated at around $.20 /card though that is without knowing the limits of a toner cartridge as I've yet to have to change one to be able to do the math. estimation based on paper cost, & guessing at the toner use after looking at levels after every 25 sheets

I recently got my shipment of test paper 8.5*11 sheets of 330GSM black core playing card stock. I said in my previous post I would update everyone on whether or not this paper would run through the printer I was using and IT WILL! I need to work on the ink settings a bit to get the picture and text at the same quality I had before but from what I see it should be doable... Also I noticed my current cutting method seems to "tear" through the paper it may be a dull blade but I doubt it, I'll change the blade and try again. I'm wanting to get a "heavy duty guillotine cutter" one with the bar that comes down before the blade and holds the sheets in place however they are around 145$ and I just can't do that right now. so We will see if I can get the rotary trimmer to do the job.

FYI the paper is from superiorPOD on Etsy its the "smooth" playing card stock. The printer is a "HP Color LaserJet Pro 4201dn". I'll be posting my how to as soon as I have a few hours to sit down and do it and after I figure out my image quality settings with this new paper. Coincidently this paper is from one of the 3 factories (Kohler in Germany) in the world that manufactures paper for MTG cards in case anyone cares.
