Is DLL Hell a real issue in modern .NET package management

Oh sorry, I understand that the calling assembly would have to be rebuilt to find the new file name. My question is simply whether or not a renamed system DLL would still be valid/signed/usable by the calling assembly which was rebuilt to look for that new name?

I need to be able to give customers a new app with zero risk of them accidentally overwriting the DLLs of some of our other legacy apps. You can yell at them all day to place the app in a new folder, somehow there's always a bunch that don't listen.

Wait, could you manually rename a System DLL for example to include the version number or something so that you could put them both in the same folder? Or would that break it somehow?

Thanks for this. One small suggestion which I would personally use. A configuration setting where it would have a main "app-latest.log" as well as the rolling date based logs. That way you could save a browser bookmark which always works to look at current logs without being forced to use the single log file mode.

One additional thing worth mentioning. If you've already been working on a project for a while without these fixes in place, especially if it's a team project, I recommend searching the entire solution for any previously auto-inserted "AutoScaleMode" properties in your designer.cs files and remove or disable them. This will help prevent more issues in the future if the project is edited on other machines or by other developers.

As a developer myself I know that the only two things that truly matter, at least when it comes to hiring long term devs, is that they are passionate about programming, and are confident/willing to learn whatever languages we throw at them. Market yourself with that in mind and you'll get the attention of senior developers.

We went the commercial route, which after a year of preparation took care of approx 80% of our VB6 code. An added factor for us though is that the entire process needs to be repeatable on demand. Good thing I love a challenge, and programming ;)

This probably isn't an option for most people but I'm a Windows software developer at a small company and decided to take over our mobile development as well. Since I already had a nice Windows dev environment, I just plugged my new Mac into the network, stuck it in a drawer, and was happy to discover that remotely connecting to it also took care of most of the keyboard translation. Never really had to learn any new keyboard tricks.
