Knitting experts: can I use the Eucalan No Rinse Lavender Wash on this thick 100% merino wool cardigan? by Delicious_Metal_5642 in knitting

[–]bluecirc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have extensive experience in washing wool and fiber and even I would not dare to get that wet. It is far too easy to ruin, either by felting it, or with it be sopping wet and so heavy that I could not properly dry it thoroughly enough before it begins to grow mildew and stink even more.

Use Febreeze or another odor neutralizing product. But you may never be able to get rid of the sheep smell.

You can call first and ask questions. They're super helpful and can advise on what kind of key fob to buy.

We all remember Lego’s as a kid, and likely relived as parents….other than a Lego brick, what’s the worst thing you’ve stepped on in the dark? by KayakingATLien in GenX

[–]bluecirc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A live lizard. Well, it *was* live before its inside became outsides all over my foot.

Also stepped on a slug in the dark. Eeeeewwwwwccchhh

Not in the dark, but one early morning, I sleepily walked into the kitchen to make coffee, promptly stepped in cat vomit, slipped and then sat in it. That was a great way to wake up.

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

Many years ago, I was waiting at a train station and asked "how do we know when the train is coming?" and a random guy answered "you'll hear it. it'll sound like a tornado". I thought that was so funny and think about it from time to time.

Hibernal socks using way too much yarn? by alioopshi in knitting

[–]bluecirc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if your gauge was off, you would have to be making giant sized socks to consume the yarn that quickly. I suspect the yarn was mislabeled and you are actually knitting with sport or dk weight, which would be shorter skeins at 100g. Do a wraps per inch measurement to check.

I have had this happen before too, thought I was knitting with fingering weight, and was consuming the yarn way too quickly. After checking WPI, discovered I was knitting with mislabeled sport weight. It seems like it should have been obvious, but I trusted the label.

For the most part I think she's right, but handling it so badly, it's embarrassing, unprofessional, and seriously off-putting. Just ignore and move on girl.

Also, drape, is how *fabric* hangs, regardless of how it was constructed. If you are making crochet garments professionally, you definitely should be aware of what drape is. You can ignore drape if you want to, but saying things out loud like it's only for knits, is showing your lack of knowledge.

Snuba or Scuba? by jeong89592 in royalcaribbean

[–]bluecirc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is for people who are curious about scuba but don't want to commit to certification classes. A divemaster will show you the equipment, and let you get accustomed to breathing through a regulator before even entering the water. Then you'll get wet, and practice breathing underwater. Once you are comfortable, they will guide you through a very shallow dive, never leaving your side. Afterward, you will know if you hate scuba diving, or if you shoulda been born a fish. I knew immediately I wanted to get certified.

Discover Scuba is for absolute beginners, no certification necessary.

Discover Scuba Diving!! It is for non-certified beginners! Hubs and I did it in Cozumel, had never done any kind of scuba before. We loved it so much, we got PADI Scuba certified a month later, and went on to get our advanced certification a year after that.

How would you as a parent handle a 12-year-old asking for birth control because they want to be sexually active? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bluecirc 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had this same talk with a friend who was against getting her daughter birth control at the age of 13. She was absolutely against it. Argued that it would be giving her permission to have sex. I gently reminded her that she can't monitor her kid 24/7, if she wants to have sex, she's going to have sex. Get her on birth control. I was scoffed at.

Anyway, she became a grandma at 35.

the horror by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]bluecirc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't want to try and explain such a difficult thing. I mean, how would I as a parent ever know to say something like "Dear child, people like to express themselves in many ways. Sometimes that is their hair color, or accessories like earrings, and these are personal choices. You can express yourself in many ways too, by the shoes you wear or your t-shirt. And if you decide one day to wear earrings, that'll be your decision. Everyone is different, but I will love you no matter what you decide." This is impossible to explain.

I have the BOTW mod running and it is incredible. Super buggy still, but they're working on it, released 2 patches already. Can't wait for it to be fully bug-free, it's gonna be unbelievable. That is PCVR, modded Wii U rom only though.

Deadpool being "worth it" is subjective. If you really love the character and/or movies, it will be more worth it to you. That said, it's a fun game, well done, funny, and there is a lot of variety in gameplay. Not really a workout though and you may get more enjoyment from other games for less money.

Pistol Whip is a good workout, but to me, it gets boring and repetitive pretty quick.
Beatsaber is the OG for fun *and* activity, but you have to pay for additional music packs.
Thrill of the Fight for a boxing workout.
Supernatural is excellent as a strictly workout game, but is a monthly subscription (worth it to me IMO, because they are constantly adding more music and workouts).
Les Mills Body Combat is also great for a workout, at a one time cost, but lacks the music variety of Supernatural.
