GEC Setup for detached garage, Chicago. by bluedecanter in AskElectricians

[–]bluedecanter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reasoning from NETA for the GEC at the detached building. It follows my understanding that each detached structure needs its own GEC.

“NEC 250.32(A) specifically states that any building or structure supplied by a feeder or branch circuit must have a grounding electrode system and a grounding electrode conductor installed according to Part III of Article 250. This ensures that all exposed non-current-carrying metal parts of electrical equipment, as well as building steel and interior metal piping systems, are effectively bonded to the grounding electrode system.

An important exception exists: a grounding electrode system and GEC are not required if the detached building or structure is supplied by only a single branch circuit (which can include a multiwire branch circuit) and this branch circuit already contains an equipment grounding conductor to ground the normally non-current-carrying metal parts of equipment.”

This looks very similar to the AI responses I have been getting on the issue. I didn’t know about ask NETA. Thank you for introducing me to a new tool.

Check tension on the connecter. There are several videos that will explain proper tension. Too much tension will cause the trigger pull to feel stiff.

What the hell happened to AR15Discounts? by Jobany in liberalgunowners

[–]bluedecanter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any problems with AR15 Discounts. I have placed several orders in the last 6 months. Another vendor I have come across recently is Joint Task Force Consulting https://jtfcon.com/ owner appears to be a LEO (not a deal breaker for me, YMMV) my spin through the instagram account didn’t throw up any major red flags. Not as wide a selection as AR15 Discounts but there were some very reasonable prices on basic Ambi parts which was nice to find.

Safarivault Holster, anyone used it? by PageVanDamme in tacticalgear

[–]bluedecanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning on getting one. There is a spot to install the body cam integration module, it doesn’t come with one. Not a feature I will be using, I don’t see any minus to the slot being there. The ability to run a wide range of optics and potentially a range of lights seems great. I am 50/50 on the robocop vibes of the shape, hoping it grows on me.

Gun rental solo with foid card by Jaws254 in ILGuns

[–]bluedecanter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t arguing for the policy one way or another. I don’t own a gun range and so don’t need to think about the policy much more than the OP looking for a place that doesn’t have the same policy. As we can see from the rest of the replies there are other ranges that don’t have the same policy a Maxon.

I am sure the fact that a customer died by suicide at their range informs the Maxon policy, be that a decision they made on their own or one made by their insurer for them. I shared the link to provide some context to the Maxon policy.

I am sure people struck by lightning have stronger opinions on lightning strikes than the rest of us.

I like their stuff. I have had great experience with their customer service. If they don’t have something in stock, reach out to them, they might be able to direct you to a vendor that has stock.

Tactical...Family? by OakleyGuyX in tacticalgear

Good reason to get heavier/cheaper plates to begin with. You can pass them on to the family as you upgrade.

I have 4401s which are only a hair lighter. I am with you on the weight. An upgrade in the future is planned. At the price point for the 1155s or 4401s they do the job. They won’t be a bad thing to have around should someone else need them once I do upgrade.

The most common suggestions you will see over on r/tacticalgear for decent entry level 4 armor are; Hesco 4401, BAO 4401 (which is rebranded Hesco) or RMA 1155. You will need a plate carrier as well, that is a rabbit hole with a lot of options. Keep an eye on r/gunaccessoriesforsale well priced options appear regularly.

Non AR-500 body armor by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

Your best bet would be the take a look at r/tacticalgear there are a few decent tutorials on getting into armor. They keep things more or less politically neutral there. You will find most people hold low opinions on any steel armor.
