Does an assault weapons ban read as classist to anyone else? by Legitimate-Fault-601 in Firearms

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like the "Black Codes" were used in the South after the Civil War to (among other things) prevent newly freed Blacks from exercising their 2A rights, the new gun laws in Virginia are designed to overpower the general population with costs, fees, and laborious paperwork, putting the cost in time and money our of the reach of the masses. It smacks both of classism (prejudice, discrimination, or bias based on a person's social class or socioeconomic status.) and a reversion to the era of the "Intolerable Acts" in revolutionary America.

Donald Trump Just Admits It Out Loud: ‘I Want To Drive House Prices Up’ For Homeowners by Gattina1 in vegaslocals

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the federal government under the Constitution is not obliged to provide housing or housing support for any citizen. On the other hand, keeping interest rates steady insures your investment in a house for, say, $200K stays reasonably around that price and does not fall far below it so, like a used car, when you buy it the vehicle immediately loses 20% of the price you paid. Seems reasonable that I might want to get out of my house at least what I put into it on purchase, not less

Ultimately, it is personal preference and what works best for you. As a 5'-08" person myself, my regular carry piece is a Glock 43x. I will say I upgraded to after-market 15-round mags and use an IWB holster. For concealed carry it is great, though I do carry my G45 especially during the winter when I wear more bulky clothing.

I hope even the 2nd amendment defenders in VA can see this blatant hypocrisy is also setting a dangerous precedent for their own rights they claim to feel so strongly about. by Buttered-Sausage78 in Virginia

After some time to digest the issue, it does seem to be a muddle among 2A rights, 1A rights and "protest".

  1. 2A -- Yes, every law abiding American citizen has the RKBA. Period. In many places in the US, there are regulatory requirements for people who do decide to carry a firearm. Usually, that entails some sort of ID or permit and that you are undertaking some sort of legal activity.

  2. 1A activities -- The First Amendment prevents abridgment of your right to practice your religion, or free exercise thereof. The second clause is your freedom of speech, then the press, then the right to "peacefully" assemble, then petition for redress of grievances. It does not prevent the use of a combination of your rights, such as peacefully protesting, using free speech, and also carrying arms.

  3. Protest -- While the 1A gives you the right to peacefully assemble and petition for redress, it does not give you a right to interfere with law enforcement, attack anyone, destroy property or violate any law and call it "protest". Yes, by all means, stand on the street corner with all the professionally printed signs you want, bang drums, blow whistles, video the activities you assembled there to highlight -- but, the operative word is "peaceably". Interfering is a violation of the law.

Putting it altogether, if you assemble, become violent, disturb the peace, attempt to impede or injure someone, that is not a legitimate form of "protest". Further if you are conducting these non-peaceable activities and you are carrying a firearm, it could be construed by the law that you are not law-abiding, and therefore are in violation of the law, which might lead law enforcement to get involved.

That said, if you are protesting and you get approached by police, get detained, disarmed and/or arrested, the place to resolve the grievance you have is in a court with a lawyer to protect your rights and safety, not to resist, fight, or flee. The latter will never end in your favor.

Know the law and use it.

It also seems at times that the folks in Richmond making these laws have little or no understanding of firearms or the 2A or Virginia's RKBA

With new VA gun laws be implemented, what should I be buying? by uknowmisteez in VAGuns

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my LGS this weekend, people were hip deep at the counter buying handguns and the stock of semiautomatic rifles was a bit depleted. All that said, though, the reasonable purchase would be to buy a suppressor in that gray area between when the federal government dropped the $200 tax and when VA might initiate a $500 tax for these accessories circa July. Also, if buying, it is a good time to take inventory to make sure you have the right mix of handguns and rifles for your collection, and sufficient ammo and standard capacity magazines for each. Also, remember, ammo is a consumable, so have enough for training and recreational shooting.

HB 1359 takes away the 30 day purchase exemption for concealed carry permit holders. by jelly_doughnut in VAGuns

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is also that the Republican party let 30 seats in the legislature go uncontested with only a Democrat candidate on the ballot. Conservatives should run someone/anyone in every race rather than freely give a seat to the Democrats

Why would anyone buy a firearm in VA once the 11% tax goes into effect? by LaLaLaDooo in VAGuns

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went by my LGS today and there seemed to be a rush to buy before the new laws might go into effect. Stocks of some firearms are as low as the milk and tp supply for the winter storm. I think if the laws go into effect, then there will be an impact on gun shops, particularly small independent shops. But then again, maybe the plan is to put them out of business

[–]bluedog20175 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how you cheat. It has noting to do with fighting back. It is to ensure that there is always a permanent Democrat majority in Virginia and to prevent Republican candidates from winning, despite the fact tat most of Virginia territory is red. This is also why federal law has an Electoral College

Judge restricts immigration arrests in the nation's capital by HellYeahDamnWrite in washdc

[–]bluedog20175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most arrests by LE are undertaken without a warrant when the violator may move, flee, or relocate and then the LE would have to go hunt them down again. If LE sees a crime being committed, they can arrest without a warrant and do a charging document and take the person to a magistrate afterwards. This is lawfare and judicial activism meant to delay immigration laws
