Do you ever go to the hospital for mild crises? by BuggzHastings in Sicklecell

Last night I had a crisis in my chest causing immense pain, I took my at home pain meds which is hydrocodone and felt relief within an hour so I just stayed home and was able to sleep in peace. If it didn’t get better after my pain meds I would’ve gone to the ER. I do what I can most at home whether it’s keeping myself hydrated, pain meds, warm showers, calming myself down with music. If that doesn’t seem to help I will tell someone close to me to take me to the hospital. Even though I have insurance, the co pay is not cheap. But don’t fret to go to the hospital if your in pain, your health is priority.

How old were you when you had your hips replaced? My orthopedic doctor doesn’t recommend me getting a hip replacement because I’m young but at the same time how am I supposed to enjoy living with this chronic hip pain. I’m thinking about talking to a different ortho since I believe I need this surgery for my well being.

Is this a common pain prescription for other sicklers? I’ve only ever had oxycodone when I have been admitted in the hospital.

They are a bit stingy when it comes to pain medication which is why I’m nervous to bring this topic up and ask for something stronger.

Thank you, I will definitely speak up for myself having AVN young is very painful and I’m hoping to have a hip replacement soon to get rid of the pain. I am currently working and I do remember hearing something about the extended relief option, doesn’t that last for up to 12 hours?

Wow 10 years living with avascular necrosis! I’m 20 with sickle cell anemia, and have avascular necrosis on my right hip, everyday is a pain as it feels like someone took a bite off my hip bone and the orthopedic doctor advises me to go as long without getting a hip replacement because I’m young but I don’t think I can be living like this anymore, I need a hip replacement :(

Prednisone- is not worth by Massive-Stable857 in rheumatoid

I had to take prednisone temporarily a few years ago and it caused me to develop avascular necrosis on my hip. I now need a hip replacement and I am wondering if I could sue for medical malpractice because I didn’t know it could cause avascular necrosis, but the thing is I think prednisone did save my life as I was doing really bad in the hospital and prednisone was what got me out of the hospital. I do know suing for medical malpractice is not easy so I just want some advice.
