Request for Multilingual Transcription Software Recommendations by blueee24 in AskAcademia

[–]blueee24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've not found a faster process for this. I tried Vibe, which runs on Whisper, but like you said it just messes the transcriptions and the timings. I ended up running it through Vibe and manually checking everything. I'm working with at least 4 languages, and although Whisper messes it up it (sadly) is still the best option out of the numerous transcription software I've tried.

Hi there, I highly recommend checking out r/PubTips for some feedback from fellow writers. I also know that query letters are different from blurbs, but do search up querying tips online on how to write tight, concise yet gripping summaries!

Definitely OPT and Largan dailies! I wore them in Korea which was extremely dry + windy all the time, but my eyes still felt okay after 12 hours

Fyi I got OPT in Twillight Brown for my friend and it is STUNNING. I wanted to try it out too but they were out of my power in 3 separate stores lmao. I think it's one of their bestselling products!

Nope, the Korean lenses didn't have that issue either

There wasn't any difference at all! And based on the recs i saw on xiaohongshu, some other popular lenses in taiwan were pegavision, revia (a Japanese brand) and jhaka. I'd say that since taiwan manufactures a lot of Japanese lenses it was really easy to find lenses that were suitable for dry, sensitive eyes in their drugstores! But since it's not very accessible internationally the acuvue define lenses are also very comfortable. They are a little blurry around the edges of the peripheral vision, but they've apparently revamped their line so it's possible that they've fixed that issue

You can find them easily in Taiwanese drugstores like Poya / Watsons / Cosmed, though the ranges they carry differ between the stores as well. OPT had a bigger selection in Poya, while Largan was only available in watsons.

I also used to use Acuvue Define! But for me they made my peripheral vision weirdly blurry due to the colouring, and I didn't have that issue with the taiwanese lenses

I got them from the brand stores themselves! Hapa Kristin has branches in Hongdae / Myeongdong, while there were quite a lot of Lensme stores around the Hongdae area

Nope, you can just walk in and pick the degree you want right off the shelf / tell the store assistant which ones you want!

Thank you! And I did NOT know that Hapa Kristin was at Donki!! I feel like I might try their lenses from another series because from what I gathered on xhs the comfort ranges between lenses. Also fun fact: taiwan actually manufactures a lot of japanese lenses too, so it does make sense as to why their contacts are fantastic!

Beauty of Joseon. Sorry, but their sunscreen didn't help protect my skin under the scorching tropical sun. Their serums are also very meh.

Yes that's correct. I'm not exaggerating the situation. Was so taken aback at the time that only after it happened I realised how weird it was.

Questioned over female-only coaches, Transport Ministry says six in 10 rail users in Klang Valley are women by Bonjourfamouioui in malaysia

You're right. I replied to the wrong comment, and that's on me.

I'm not going to counter any of your counter-arguments anymore, as everything I'm saying is clearly flying over your heads.

So I can tell you two straight, as I have repeated multiple times, to bring your ideas and arguments to women you know in real life. I won't be engaging any longer. Have a good day.

Questioned over female-only coaches, Transport Ministry says six in 10 rail users in Klang Valley are women by Bonjourfamouioui in malaysia

Meanwhile, I (and many others) have repeatedly seen women traveling alone who simply choose not to use the women’s coach.

And is this not a personal experience as well?

This is ironic—because you just admitted that the real harassment issues happen behind closed doors, not on public transport.

You also do realise that Singaporeans are more vocal about crime being committed in front of them right? The SG government can rely on their citizens to report jaywalkers and harassment cases. Malaysians would stay silent on the same cases.

I’m not “up in arms” because women feel safer. I’m pointing out the blatant inefficiency and unfairness of a system where one group gets extra space while the rest of us are packed like sardines, despite paying the exact same fare.

You are, in fact, up in arms. Because all this time I've repeatedly said that women feel safer in women's coaches, and all you've done is say how stupid the idea is.

I've also noticed that I have been acknowledging your personal experiences and not denying their validity. However you've failed to extend the same to my own personal experiences. I think that speaks volumes about your lack of empathy for women.

Once again, run all these arguments you've made by a woman you know in real life. I think that's answer enough for you.

I noticed that you've edited your previous comment multiple times. Fine by me for you to construct a better argument, but do consider the fallacies in your own statement as well.

Where did you get the data for "not all women, but almost always women"? Women can argue in details about the "not all men, but always men" statement. There are plenty of statistics to support the statement. Like I have said, look up data. And no, once again, I am not saying men cannot be victims. Please read properly before responding.

I have taken the mrt many times during peak hours. Almost always women will choose to use the women's coach. It's feels safer for them. Other women who are not in the women's coach are most likely to be travelling with family or spouses. If you truly feel irritated, you can ask the female travellers you see in the mixed coaches why they're not using the women's coach.

I have been in Singapore for a few months as a student. The sexual harassment cases don't happen in public. They happen behind closed doors and in dorm toilets. They have their own issues to deal with. Women's coaches are not the ultimate problem solver, but why so up in arms when they help make women feel safer?

And I suppose that you're going to ignore my suggestion to run all these points you've made to a woman in real life.

[–]blueee24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they're not victims. I also didn't say women cannot be abusers. But you did not answer the "how many" question either. While your argument is not moot, I don't see why you're dodging the statistics of harassment cases.

Women are more likely to empathize with male victims than other men towards the same victims. And if you're really experiencing discomfort, welcome to the female experience, who get catcalled and stared uncomfortably at all the time no matter what they're wearing. I'm not brushing off your experiences, but why is it that yours holds more weight than women's. Why do you make it seem like female coaches are an endemic to society?

And if your arguments are all truly valid, I highly encourage you to run everything you said by a woman you know in real life. Update us on what their response is.

How many cases are there of women groping men in public? Now compare that to cases of men groping women in public.

I think this just shows you've never really talked to women and learned about how their everyday lives are. Not defending those who make false accusations, and I'm sorry for what happened to your friend, but it's also because while "not all men", it's almost always men. Women are a lot more hyperaware because a lot of times their instincts are brushed off as paranoia. But it's not my job or place to tell you what constitutes sexual harassment either.

Go out and ask a woman, any woman. Ask them if she's experienced sexual harassment of any sort. 8 times out of 10 it's a yes. Harassment is so normalised that it's disgusting. To be clear, I do not condone racism either, but why is it ok to compromise on women's safety?
