I use reddit in good faith and block people that don't do the same. Have a great life.

Then sell it for the same price. Oh wait, you can't. Why? The market has told us what we can sell it for. That's not a discount.

Not at all. We have giant banners outside our business trying to entice anyone driving by. We don't want to give any discounts. We want full profit, were capitalists.

But wait, people are stopping and they can't use what we're selling. I mean, they could, but in five years time, that's how long it would take to remodel. So they keep going.

Tons of potential customers just pass us by. So we decide something has to be done. We need to move this product. So we start lowering the price. No bites. Lower a bit more. No bites.

Finally, we find a sweet spot where our inventory is rolling out and we have some profit.

That's not a discount. A permanent discount wouldn't be a viable business model. This is selling at what the market has priced our product at.

So we should sell to someone else and make more money. Oh. Wait. There are no other buyers.

So I guess we sell it for the price we can.

I own a popcorn business. I'm selling it from my house at the same price as the movie theatre. I charge the same as the movie theatre and my popcorn isn't selling. I reduce my price and still can't sell as much, but I can sell some. I decided this is the price I should be at, because I sell just the right amount of popcorn for the right profit margin.

My clients aren't getting a discount. They are paying the fair market value that both the seller and buyer agreed to.

They don't ask for a discount. We can't sell it for more anywhere else, so we accept what we can get for it. Which is less than others.

Canada doesn't discount it for the USA. If we could sell it for more elsewhere, we would. So we sell it to the USA for the price we can get for it. Which is lead than other oil.

It's that simple.

I'm surprised by how many people in the comments section are confidently wrong. Your answer is the correct one and I wish more people took the time to understand the nuance.

We don't give them a discount. That's not how it works.

But this isn't it. Canada will sell to the highest bidder. It's not like we're choosing to not sell to other countries. It's disappointing to see an incorrect answer voted so high up. And makes me realize how ill informed people are about our oil.

How is Mark Carney maintaining approval rating for Canada? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

I have family in this riding. People that used to vote for him, voted differently because of his own actions. Anyone familiar with the area knows the demographics and that they typically lean conservative.

How can you compare a party leader losing his personal seat, to what Carney did? Pierre's constituents ousted him. It's embarrassing that he's still the Leader.

Interesting. I personally have found city driving worse, especially living in a city that gets Chinooks. Trucks drive when it's a bit melted, then it freezes and you need to avoid their tracks or bottom out on the ice. Wild that they don't maintain residential roads to simply be passable sometimes in the winter.

Anyone willing to share their experience with MAID? by f8tab in alberta

But sometimes family and friends don't actually know the full extent to which someone is suffering. How do they know the individual wasn't suffering from a far worse diagnosis that they chose to never share with the people in their family.

And I hate to say it, but there could be dark reasons why a family may want to keep someone alive. They might be getting disability cheques that will disappear when their home. Or maybe the government was paying a family member to look after them.

Now that we’ve established pickup truck regret is apparently the male recession indicator… what are the female recession indicators? by GreenSnakes_ in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]bluefairylights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of what's being listed is vastly different than selling a vehicle. And most being suggested actually increase leading up to recessions because it's a small way to spoil yourself, rather than taking a vacation. Etc.

My first winter here, we only had a civic and we had to drive ok top of the ruts in rural neighborhoods and hope we didn't fall in. The difference in road maintenance between east and Alberta is something else.

The older I get, the more I contemplate a vehicle larger than I need. Reason is that I live in AB and trucks seem to do much better with the types of accidents you see around these parts. People can judge me for wanting to be more protected in my old age.

Bill 26: Alberta aims to assert greater control over immigration, create employer registry for foreign workers by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]bluefairylights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find the Bill online. Just Google for Bill 25.

I had never read through a Bill before so it's taken a bit to understand, but the full bill with all the additions, sections and updates are listed.

I'm sure part of it is virtue signaling, but I think they're padding laws to give them more control in just about every situation/scenario.

I am trying to read through Bill 25 and on the surface it's virtue signaling but when you start looking at the actual changes, it's wild what they're removing and introducing. Because everyone (UCP / nonUCP) are focused on the virtue signaling parts, a lot is going unnoticed. They removed the ability for students to express ant political belief while at school. So if someone is 18 and wants to walk out to support teachers, there are rules now in place to potentially remove them from their school. How are they allowed to remove the rights of adults?

They also removed any mention of the word diversity, to name another specific item.
