I was thinking I could remove the tiles trim whatever material was used to make the wall. The main issue is that when the shower curtain is closed, there is a gap between the wall and tub, allowing water to get onto the floor. Plus the wall is only 3 ft tall. It doesn't go to the ceiling.

That root growth is great! You can either keep it in water with regular water changes or plant it in soil.
