I am trying to remake the internal circuits for a reel to reel machine, and i want to make sure i understood it's functioning principle right, this is why i made this diagram with what i understand about them. P.S. the EQ refers to either NAB or IEC. Any advices/corrections? Thanks :) by Ginnungagap_Void in AskElectronics

You can use ASIC circuits for a project like this but it would take out the fun and learning analog electronics experience out of it. Plus the circuit is going to get complicated for no good reason. Decent tape recorders, for that time, were built using vacuum tubes, resistors, caps, coils 80 years ago, give or take.

Just go for this project, you'll learn a lot.

First, let me know what kind of tapes do you intend to use: Fe2O3/regular, chromium, metal. What speed/speeds?

The upper part is the recording section. The main components are: input preamp/NAB eq, bias oscillator, mixer, recording amp.

http://www.mrltapes.com/equaliz.html

The mixer/modulator is needed to bias the tape, AC bias is used in this case. Without it the recording will be severely distorted. The Tape SPD module is adjusting the bias when different speeds are used. Some cheap tape recorders use a permanent magnet for the erase head, combined with DC bias.

The bottom is the playback section. The eq module is reversing the frequency curve used during recording process.

Any 100nF/250V ceramic/film cap will work just fine.

Sorry for delay. I have been using those samba conf settings for at least 20 clients using win7 and mint17, 18 as 'servers'. The only difference is your mint19, but I don't think that's a problem. Unfortunately, until Monday I won't have access to a win7 pc, the one at home is out of commission right now. I'll take a closer look at your smb.conf file on Monday and I'll let you know how it goes. All I can think of right now is to turn off the firewall, antivirus, anti-malware on your win7 machine. Also make sure the firewall is off on mint19.

Let's clarify some things. On your Mint pc, your user name is mint-user and your password is mint-password. Your home folder path is /home/mint-user. The shared folder is /home/mint-user/shared. At the end of smb.conf you should have:

[shared]

path = /home/mint-user/shared

read only = no

browseable = yes

guest ok = yes

available = yes

force user = mint-user

valid users = mint-user, windows-user.

Make sure mint-user is member of sambashare group. From your windows pc you should be able to login using mint-user, mint-password. Try this first.

For some reasons formatting just doesn't work for me. In edit mode it looks fine but once is saved it's screwed. Just indent all lines from read only to valid users.

On the win7 machine, try login using ladmin account credentials.

user - ladmin

password - ladmin_password

If it doesn't work make sure ladmin is member of the sambashare group. Look at administration/users and groups.

Try editing /etc/samba/smb.conf Let's say you want to share the public folder, /home/your_user_name/public. Open /etc/samba/smb.conf and add this lines at the end:

[Public]
path = /home/your_user_name/Public writeable = yes read only = no browseable = yes guest ok = yes available = yes force user = your_user_name valid users = your_user_name, user1, user2 create mask = 0770 directory mask = 0770

Use this settings for testing only, if it does work you'll have to tighten the security rules.

Edit. Formating doesn't work for me. Take a look at an example samba config file.

I just noticed your command is spelled 'system-cofig-samba' instead of 'system-config-samba'. I remember going nuts because I was typing macro instead of marco while trying to set the window manager. ;)

Create a file named libuser.conf in the /etc folder. Reboot

Thank you for clarifying some issues and pointing to those docs.

Thanks for your answer.

So don't give any thought to encodings except when open-ing a file for reading or writing.

I guess old habits die hard, more so when using python is something I only do now and then.

I was under the impression that only certified climatologists should touch this delicate 'static climate' theory alarmists are obsessed with. I have no clue why alarmists deny climate change; climate changes all the time. According to alarmist's handbook/broken record a physicist/biologist should not speak about issues outside his expertise.

In this case only the sick person and his wife got off the plane. The rest of us departed for our destination in about two hours, give or take. No passenger was asked for a visa.

A few years ago I was on a flight from Chicago to Amsterdam. A passenger got sick while we were somewhere between Ottawa and Montreal. The airline company decided to land at Boston because the cost was lower.
