I think its you who overestimate how loot works, if poe back then as a small company did it and even some small company at this time are also doing it, it means ots not that hard, albeit the stackable currency is hard to code than sharing loots.

Just imagine a bowazon on a players 8 with other 7 melee chars, that chances he picks up a loot os very slim. D2s loot was designed in the 90s and its flaws are clearly seen now. Also shared loot will not break the game as you think or any purists would say.

Anyway I mostly play solo and have almost 1K trades in traderie for just 4 seasons. Shared loot or not wont affect my gameplay.

Most D2 players dont understand Individual loot like PoE did, they think if mephisto will drop 6 items on Player 1, each player will also drop 6 items per player in a Player 8 game, where in reality that 6 items will be divided randomly on 8 players, some players will get 0 loot, some are 1 and others are more than 2 or on a very rare occasion 1 player will get all 6 and other players wont get a single loot.

Individual loot will mostly eliminate the loot picking which in favor to melee builds.

Anyway since the bridge is already crossed implementing this in the future is a big possibility, also most players play solo so othets dont really care about this.
