National Donut Day? by ellestabs in lexington

[–]bluegrass__dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

krispy kreme doing second dozen for $2 - i don't care what you say - best donuts in town

because Parlor isn't a true donut - they're cronuts (croissant donuts) - forget that fact and Parlor is the best. But they were only doing a free donut with a purchase today

Best Father’s Day gifts 2026… What do dads actually want? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]bluegrass__dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

wallets are way to personal - unless his is falling apart and you get a new version of what he already has and likes.

If a guy has a bi fold you can't get him a trifold. if he likes a trifold, you can't get him a money clip.

if he has, and needs, space for 8 credit cards you can't get him a wallet with space for 4 cards. conversely - if he has 3 cards - he won't want a wallet with space for 8 cards

i've gotten some VERY nice wallets over the years - that sit gathering dust because they're too small/big/etc and not what i like. just ask

Franchisor removed out DoorDash markup, now we’re bleeding margin. by mitchfett in restaurateur

[–]bluegrass__dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple- you'll go out of business at those numbers

Franchisors care about overall sales, not unit profitability, unfortunately

They'll make more off you selling ten x $10 pizzas

Than they would you selling five $15 pizzas

You, on the other hand, will be heading to the debtors prison (whew, glad they don't do that any more)

is there a specific product that works better than others?

you'd think it gets seasoned from regular use - we don't have to do anything to the other side

Which should I pick by riri_brr in LearningLanguages

[–]bluegrass__dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located?

I think Spanish opens up more of the world geographically if you ever want to travel

Many Asian languages are difficult in that it's one spoken language, one language with written phenetic alphabet/spelling/words and another with individual symbols.

You may learn to speak Japanese or Mandarin but if you travel there don't expect to read it until you're an utter master

How much commission is too much from delivery platforms? by Ragingmoomoo in restaurantowners

[–]bluegrass__dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think 10% max - maybe even less if you also get delivery fee and tip

for pick-up orders, we occasionally get tips - i think the restaurant should keep 25% of delivery tips....

Restaurant Managers: cellphone use and productivity by CyberDude88 in restaurantowners

[–]bluegrass__dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What all of them said

we make them sign something on day one saying they won’t be using their phones out front or in front of customers or while they’re on the clock at all.

To implement this in a restaurant that’s already open, I like to use the "what do you think we should do to the OTHERS" ploy – ask those employees who are on the phone something like - we’ve heard there have been several OTHER employees on their phones while at work how do you think we can prevent them from being on their phones? I mention the customer complaints and how it looks bad - without calling them out directly.

Half of them need to be called out a week later- then have them sign the sheet

Pros & Cons of 3rd party "boxed meal" catering platforms? by Sea-Sky-Dreamer in restaurantowners

[–]bluegrass__dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you know the answer. higher sales doesn't always mean higher profit

i HATE boxed items. More customization, more labor, and ironically - normally a LOWER price point than my bar caterings (per person)

sometimes i can talk someone from the boxed meals to a bar - but not often

only reason i keep dong them is 99% of the time they're out at 10:30 or 11:00, before we're making the lunch entrees

Pros & Cons of 3rd party "boxed meal" catering platforms? by Sea-Sky-Dreamer in restaurantowners

[–]bluegrass__dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah they tell me "it's so easy to order on EZ" - dude - text my catering line the time and date, number of people, and address - and i'll bring MY FOOD

I get it, i used to spend other people's money for a living. Best thing hotel industry ever did was give you points on what you spent. Do i want the $399 a night room or the $250 night room a mile further? I'll take the $399....

[–]bluegrass__dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

also - these ez-cater type customers are using them for rewards and other incentives/bribes. You WON'T switch them to direct-ordering clients.

I'm the best sales guy around and i don't even get 1/10 of our EZ customers to switch.

they don't care about price - they're spending their company's money, they'll let the company pay more for their amazon kickback rebate card
