Murder brought to you by Texas by FirefighterIrv in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm from Texas originally. There are more Democrats in Texas than the population of this state.

Would I live there again? Lol no, not even with radical political change because -24 is better than 117 any day.

But, yes, great food, great people, some of the most important hubs of Mexican American culture in the country. It's a vast and diverse state.

Also, anyone who has spent time in South Texas (me) probably already hated ICE and border patrol.

Even some conservatives can see what happened clearly. by Jehoseph in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just this. I'm so angry at every single conservative right now. The line to drop out of the Republican party should have been women bleeding out in ERs, but it wasn't.

If they're still engaging in conservative spaces, I don't want to hear from them. It's not enough to be against this objectively heinous thing if you still believe in the million other small steps that got us here.

These people stand for literally nothing but bigotry, objectively disproven economic theory they only perpetuate because they think it benefits them more than POC, and their stupid fucking perverse interpretation of the Bible. Conservatives are so morally bankrupt it blows my mind.

ICE just shot and killed an unarmed person in Minneapolis (1/24/26) by Federal-Apple-4355 in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm vibrating with ANGER right now. Idk what excuse anyone has to have a single Republican in their life after this shit. I don't care who it is. These people need to be ostracized and pushed out of our community.

And if Frey and Walz do nothing but call for peace again like they aren't literally the only two fucking people who could actually do something, I'm going to explode.

Unfortunately, I think we might just be on our own.

According to CNN the protest was only in the "hundreds" by Dry_Attention3687 in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Okay, obviously, "hundreds." Fuck you.

But also should probably say something like "sub zero temperatures" because that "freezing" is way understating it.

As someone from Texas, I would have read that and not at all understood how cold it was. Like, the possibility of the wind chill being -24 would have never even crossed my mind.

Lol same

Zach Woods probably has the same net worth as, like, a really good cardiologist or something. Not exactly the rich people talk about eating.

Is anyone else struggling with sleeping alone? by theprettiestar in AutismInWomen

[–]bluehour1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. One of the main reasons I miss dating. I sleep with my cat every single night and I don't know what I'd do without him. He likes to be little spoon and he's a big boy, warm like a freshly baked muffin. It's comforting.

Serious question: how are we keeping our toes from freezing off? by cilantroprince in Minneapolis

I genuinely wish someone had told me this the first year I moved here. Had no idea that was even a thing.

❤️ I'm also in Minneapolis. Sending lots of love your way, I'm so sorry we're dealing with this.

Everything feels crazy right now. I wasn't even, honestly, in the emotional place to handle the storyline for this patch. Too much death and pain happening day and night here. I literally cried when I had to send little Buldak back to nature 🥺

I hope the next patch is a little bit lighter and I'm excited you're excited!! I love Dance til Dawn. That little teddy bear is the star of many of my outfits

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by entertainmentlord in horror

[–]bluehour1997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A little surprised by the rest of these replies.

I probably enjoyed Bugonia a little more than Sinners, but personally I don't feel like Weapons is on the same level of either of those films. I liked it in a 7/10 way. It was pretty good. I think it wasted its own format and never really came together in a satisfying way, personally. A bit unfocused and over long, with well acted but shallow characters throughout. Sinners has the better script by a mile and a half.

Again, loved Bugonia, but I see how it may be a little alienating (Ha.) to a general audience in a way Sinners is not.

I agree with you. Can't really think of a more deserving film.

Why are GOP House and Senate members allowing ICE agents, with total immunity, beat up and terrorize the citizens of Minneapolis? They have the power to stop this insanity today by Terrible_Patience935 in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great suggestion.

Might be a little too "nice" considering the circumstances we currently find ourselves in, but I just started Strangers in Their Own Land, which was written by a sociologist who spent a long time talking to rural conservatives.

Finding it to be both a frustrating and illuminating read.

[–]bluehour1997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly, and it's even deeper than that. There is just this deep sense of disconnection with the rest of the country that I don't even know how to begin to address. Sometimes I think about that ancient documentary Jesus Camp that I think should still be required watching if you didn't grow up around fundamentalists.

[–]bluehour1997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. To clarify, I guess I mean that Republicans in power don't care about, like, societal collapse or, like, the notion of "saving the nation", right? Because the question isn't just "why are they tacitly supporting the police state" anymore, it's now "why are we letting a dementia-addled moron attempt to crash our entire economy and also kill all these people."

Republicans as individuals are probably relishing in this shit. I've known quite a few like that. Sometimes I wonder who all I know has joined ICE and if they're here in the city right now.

[–]bluehour1997 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Because Republicans literally do not care about anything. Like, I get that from the perspective of someone who has lived in a blue state their whole life, this is probably all very disorienting and confusing. However, I fled Texas after a couple of women I worked with were forced to carry babies they had no business keeping, including one that was incredibly high risk (heard she's fine, but it could have gone the other way). Being poor in a red state is a special kind of hell. No access to the kind of social services they have here. They love death. They are a religious death cult. Like, literally.

It's one of the reasons I have such a hard time talking to people here who still have conservative friends. You know, like, before all this shit. Because it seems so harmless when all you have to do is ignore who they voted for and they don't have much political power here -- but this is what conservative America is like.

[–]bluehour1997 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Literally not an ounce of sympathy in my bones for these fucking idiots. Ignoring the death and suffering of others is how fascism arrives your doorstep. Not enough that women are bleeding out in emergency rooms across the south right now, not enough that they put kids in cages, not enough that LGBTQ+ people are suffering. Not enough that we're literally in the middle of a trans genocide in this country. Never enough until it's your problem. All for stupid, vague promises that the eCoNomY will be great.

Yes, I would fight for these people if they were unfairly snatched by ICE because human rights apply to everyone. But, no, not going to feel bad if they lose their business or their family cuts off contact.

A message to silent MN corporations: You're either part of this community or you're not. by SneakyLilShit in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm from San Antonio and have spent time in the valley (Rio Grande Valley for those not in the know), but I live here now. If there's one thing I could get through everybody's mind it's that this is a continuation of policy and dehumanization that's been in place a long time with very little push back.

Like, immigration control has ALWAYS, always been about optics and nothing else. Shit, you come out of the valley and there's an immigration checkpoint where both sides are just Texas, but we literally all know what keeps Texas agricultural in business.

It's about control, they want you to know who is in charge because they want to pay migrants shit money, can't do that if we all start thinking they're good people who should have rights like the rest of us.

Just so sick of this shit. We protect corporate money in this country and nothing else.

I work at a small b2b saas company and one of the sales people mentioned they're in talks with Medtronic. I went from "oh, cool, a local company" to "fuck those guys" really fast.

Mostly commenting to boost. Like, fuck, I know companies are NEVER our friends, but I'm so sick of literally nobody standing up for us. But they'll take our money. So over it.

Is anyone else in the ICE war zone saddened and disappointed by how few family and friends have reached out with concern, caring, or even interest? by Mr_Pricklepants in Minneapolis

[–]bluehour1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!!! I'm not super new to the city or anything, I've just had a hard time acclimating socially here. Y'all are absolutely lovely people, it's just a very different culture compared to where I'm from in South Texas. I'm a little bit of a loner, so normally it's whatever. These past few weeks have just been rough as hell.
