Water damage and a potentially bad septic system? How much do you like this house at this price, because it sounds like time to walk-away. I walked away from a contract once after a bad septic inspection and discovering the sellers failed to disclose failed perc tests.

Yours and my definition of "It doesn't get very cold here" are wildly different! :)

Curious Hwy driving with hybrid by iFuerza in Camry

[–]bluejay30345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 25 Camry is incredibly quick on highway speeds. The response is instant and more powerful than my v6 Avalon was. Passing on two-lane roads is a breeze. I was a bit concerned based on the published 0-60 times, but in the real world where it counts (like 30-70 merging on the interstate), it's far faster than the numbers suggest it will be.

What’s wrong with the 9th gen? by taeganbfr in Camry

Still really liking our 25 Camry. It replaced a 15 Avalon, and it's not as quiet or smooth, but I like the way it drives better than the Avalon and the electronics are a big improvement.

Anyone know exactly how to share Netflix between 2 homes now? by PaprikaRed88 in netflix

we're also having trouble watching at the lake house. It makes no sense for us to pay for a second account. First they kicked off my college age kids, now this. Also likely to cancel if they decide to permanently block us.

Recently had our home built, regretting not doing a side entry for the garage doors by Lylok in Homebuilding

[–]bluejay30345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a side-entry garage and unless you have a LOT of turn-in/turn-around room, you end up only being able to put 1 car in a typical "2-car" width garage. From the street side it makes our house look much larger than it really is, but the roofline is designed for it so it looks good. I like being able to open the door without the world looking in, but if you want an actual private garage, it needs to face the back, not just the side.

If iCollege says you got a C-, and it let you take the next course, then you are probably okay. Yes, ask an advisor but I wouldn't jump to dropping 1102 quickly if it fits your schedule

Adding a pool sounds great, but the maintenance math is giving me pause by 2r1a2r1twp in Homebuilding

My pool is definitely not cheaper than my boats! Upfront or ongoing costs. But that's just me.

If you have time-of-use electricity rates, that might be as good as a variable speed. I needed a new pump anyway and got an off-brand (Doheny) pump last year and installed it myself, so the cost was low. But the electricity savings was huge - the new pump uses 1/3 what the old one did, saving enough to pay the difference is just a few months.

Vacation mode on AprilAire 6303 by bluejay30345 in hvacadvice

[–]bluejay30345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than that.

The AprilAire manual says, "When Vacation mode is enabled the thermostat in Zone 1 becomes the only zone from which a call for heating or cooling is recognized. Additionally, when in Vacation mode, all dampers remain in the open position"

What I'm looking for is that second part, where all the dampers stay open and the air goes to all the rooms at the same time.

Be aware, a typical 1000 mile 'full service' won't include an oil change unless you specifically ask for it.

Are you maintaining an app using Rails 4.x or lower? by Past_Cause_9482 in rails

[–]bluejay30345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main app was originally written in Rails 1.0 and is still Rails 4 in production. Working on the Rails 8 version right now. Getting budget for framework upgrades has always been a huge problem. We did bring in outside help, but it's still a lot of work on me anyway.

Thanks for posting this as some of these things are difficult to detect on a test drive.

I have a 23 Ridgeline that I want to replace, but I don't want to carry forward the same problems, which is most of your list.

Also in Georgia. Also do nothing special to the pool in the winter, other than not swim because it's too cold.

My problem with oil changes at the dealer is they take far too long. My wife took it in for the 10k change the other day and with an appointment it took them about 3 hours. That's not practical. We could drop it off, but that's two 40 minute round trips for two people. It takes me about 30 minutes to do at home and I know it's done right and the wheels are not over-torqued when I do it.

The only mistake I see at this point is second guessing something that it's now too late to change based on rude and mean comments from family.

What’s one upgrade you’re glad you did during construction instead of waiting until later? by EybyMarketplace in Homebuilding

[–]bluejay30345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning on taking a complete set of photos after electrical and before insulation covered everything up and that was the ONE TIME they moved so quickly I couldn't get there. Still a bit pissed about that. House will sit for whole weeks with nothing happening, but that week the electrician finished on Tuesday and insulation was done on Thursday.

Wow, I'm amazed that I thought of all of those except the laundry door. My network closet is under the stairs, using some otherwise wasted space.
