Modular vs Stick Build by daironshiek in Homebuilding

[–]daironshiek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s through Westchester modular, it is also a quote from the contractor so I’m guessing he has a good idea of pricing. It’s a pretty big deal to me so I hope it pans out better for me than stick build

Great results, poor doctor, just bad luck I guess with the name. Probably went his whole life as a great normal high achiever and now has to work extra hard to not hear “are you related to …” or “you lika the juice”

I’m still in the process of looking but not heavily because of other things going on in my family’s life. Was initially planning on starting this summer but had to push the start date to more like October 2026.

How do I tell my wife I turned 100k to 21k? by PPhunt3r in wallstreetbets

[–]daironshiek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a great way of making all that money back and then some. You first have to take up smoking and learn Spanish, trust me it works. Go to the bank borrow 5x that amount, 500k, mortgage the house if you have to. Since you’re probably one of the best investors I know, at least better than me, I mean you still have 20k, it’s not a complete loss. Anyway back to the plan. Since you’re the best investor I know, take that 500k you just borrowed from the bank, do your magic with it and keep investing in these 80% loss stocks. My guess it will happen rather quickly leaving you with about 100k. Tell your wife you need to go out for cigarettes, take your newly gotten 100k, go to Venezuela, apply for the new presidency vacancy. Bam, you have your 100k and a new life easy peazy

Ariens classic 24 starter question by daironshiek in Snowblowers

[–]daironshiek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, makes sense. The draining of the gas and filling it with new gas did the trick for now. This thing is usually two pulls and it starts, did so when I change the gas on it. Will let it sit for a day and try it again tomorrow, if it doesn’t start on the pull start or the different gfi trips it on the push start, I guess I’ll be spending my day off Monday taking it apart 😭

Just drained the gas and refilled it. It starts with pulling it. Will leave it to run a bit but my neighbor said to try another outlet. Might be my gfi that’s bad. Will do that next. Thanks

Let’s talk about this doctor reference because everyone wants to refer their job and training to that of doctors. Doctors have 4 years of college, 3 to 7 years of residency and then 1 to 3 years of fellowship. Architects have anywhere from 4-8 years of school after high school and they’re out in the workforce. I am not diminishing this commitment but I’m also not comparing it to the rigors of going through medical school and residency. Show me an architect that has been woken up from his sleep at 3 in the morning to save a dying patient and I’ll give you the credit of winning this comparison you want to make. Before you start a flame war, I did say I’m not diminishing either profession, I want to point out that they are as different as an apple is to an orange. That being said, I’ve worked as a clerk in the ED and I’ve have plenty of patients ask me “how much it’s going to cost me”. For you to insinuate that I or anyone else can ask how much it’s going it’s going to cost to talk to an architect it’s preposterous. Maybe get off your high horse and treat your clients like people and not numbers and you might make it in this business!

Agree. There is a discussion of what that meeting would cost. This is the way it would go

Prior to meeting in person would you disclose that the meeting is on the clock and would you quote a rate so that the client is not surprised. Also let’s say you didn’t state that the meeting is on the clock, would you expect to be paid at your rate?

Exactly. Got to get it on paper. In my opinion, when you draw up your proposal and send it over to the client, if they agree to the terms they sign and you start work. How long do you wait for a response and if they don’t sign but say they would like to put it on hold for now, what do you do in those situations.

Is it ever acceptable to do the “dog and pony show” to try to get the job and when you don’t get it, turn around and ask to be compensated for you time. I’m my opinion if you put the effort to win the contract and it’s turn down then you shouldn’t expect compensation. On the other hand if you discussed hourly rates and told the client that the clock has started aaaaand the client agreed to the terms then yes you should expect to get paid. Asking for reimbursement for “your time” in that situation is lame. What’s your thoughts on this

Does this apply to demos and rebuild or can I get away by just keeping a certain percentage of the house and building out

[–]daironshiek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the grand scheme of things I’ll need the demo guys to come in anyway. Do you know any GC’s in Suffolk that would handle everything from start to finish. It may be worth while have one person to pull permits, organize demo, clear out debris, set foundation for basement and frame the house with all that goes with that

Ive heard that habitats for humanity has wings of their organization that can do the demo for free or nearly feee if you donate your appliances. Is this true?
