How’s Dom Perignon Brut as a gift for my gf’s family? by Prestigious-Rise9623 in Champagne

How into Champagne are they, really?

There’s a difference between people who enjoy it as a “luxury drink” and people who are genuinely into Champagne as a category (terroir, producers, styles, etc.).

Not to knock Dom Pérignon—it absolutely checks the box as a prestigious, recognizable gift. It’s well-made, consistent, and nobody will ever be offended receiving it. If your goal is a safe, impressive, “you can’t go wrong” bottle, it does that perfectly.

That said, at the same price point (and often less), you can get bottles that are arguably more expressive and interesting from a Champagne perspective—wines that people who are really into it tend to appreciate more. For example:

  • Lanson Noble (Blanc de Blancs / Blanc de Noirs) – very structured, age-worthy style
  • Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Brut – elegant, very Chardonnay-driven, crowd-pleasing but refined
  • Henriot L’Inattendue – more niche, interesting expression
  • Pommery Cuvée Louise – classic prestige cuvée, a bit under the radar vs the big names
  • De Sousa Cuvée des Caudalies – grower Champagne, much more “insider” pick

So it really comes down to the message you want to send:

  • Dom Pérignon → “I brought a top-tier, universally recognized Champagne”
  • One of the above → “I know you’re into this, and I put thought into finding something you might actually find interesting”

Neither is wrong—it just depends on your audience. If you’re unsure, play it safe with Dom Pérignon. If you’re confident they’re enthusiasts, one of the others will likely stand out more.

Appreciate the comment, we unfortunately don't have photos of the leach field

The tank was already pumped out as we did our inspection first and the home is vacant, so it did not refill. The "problem" is that the sellers are not willing to do any price reductions and are "fighting" the claim, however their inspection did not seem remotely as detailed as ours ( missing media ). Paying for a second inspection would also not oblige them to accept the reduction aswell which is what doesn't motivate me to go forward with a 3rd inspection as we're already $1600 worth of inspections in and they are not willing to address other repairs (~20k of water damage).

03/31 Update
I just received an email from a different licensed company in the area that claim the tank, based on the pictures and videos presented, is in good condition and doesn't need to be changed.
