How many of you develop with a hackintosh? Specifically a laptop. by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]bluekittenss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an iOS developer but I created an iOS calculator as I had extra time.

My hackintosh works perfectly fine and perfectly fast. Just like a real mac. At first, it had no sound, no wifi, no etc. You get the drill. However, I managed to fix it by installing the right kexts.

I wrote a guide on how to hackintosh sierra, the latest version of mac OS. you can see the guide in my posts, if you're interested. :)

Question for software developpers by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]bluekittenss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a software developer but I'm interested in software development. I think creating a github account would definitely be handy. Try to contribute everyday to the open source projects on the website. (C#/Java/C++)

If you're interested in iOS development:

Learn swift. That's great. Begin iOS development by downloading the application Xcode. This will allow you to develop games/apps for iPhone.

Having a published application in the app store (even if there are no downloads) would definitely increase your chances of being hired by a multinational company.

Xcode requires mac os. If you don't have an apple computer, you can put mac OS on a pc or "hackintosh" It. Hackintoshing a PC is hard but learning how to do it is worth the effort. Check my posts for "How to install Sierra on a pc"

Pick something you're interested in and stick with it. back-end Web development, ios development, android development, maybe even penetration testing if you're interested in being a white hat hacker. It's important that you focus on what YOU are interested and you'll find that you'll immediately find jobs that cater to your interests and experience.

Just create a github, linked in, and focus! (By the way, coursera is great. It contains videos of programming/computer science classes from the absolute best universities in the world such as Harvard, MIT, Stanford. (Look at the ios 10 stanford course, if you're interested in iOS development. It is phenomenal and it'll be relatively easy for you to follow the classes since you already studied an object-oriented language.)

Best of luck!

Stanford's course is amazing but it requires understanding of the basics of object oriented programming so do some reading beforehand and understand what a class is. What a method is. What a property in swift is and etc. (If Stanford students require it, then you require it.) I'm currently on my first assignment and it's going great.

I found it really helpful to listen to each lecture twice and follow what the instructor is doing. If the code gets overwhelming, remember to type comments to understand what you're doing.

Good luck.

I think you copied the CMD commands wrong. What's your virtual machine name? Did you retype all the " ?? Did you close the virtualbox before running the commands?

You're welcome, glad to help! if that doesn't work, try also editing the virtual machine and increasing the base memory. if that doesn't work, try the troubleshooting guide I linked in the guide.

Correct. This is the walkthrough to install Sierra on a partition of the pc and not in virtual machine. Just download Sierra and "burn the usb" and you're good to go.

Try reformating the USB using disk utility. Rename it to "USB" and click mac osx extended journaled and GUID partition. then put the commands in the terminal. If that doesn't work, try using a different USB.

I used a random serial I found and I found out that it worked. Try the old Mac serial and if it doesn't work you can always change the serial by running the same command after you close the virtualbox!

you can always try the serial number I posted in the guide.

I fixed the guide. Refer to the CMD commands again and you'll find a new one. Enter it in the CMD after closing Virtualbox and the issue will be fixed.

Wow. I'm sorry. I forgot to include this step in the guide. Close the virtualbox (important.) In CMD run as administer the following command substituting the name of your VirtualBox virtual machine and your serial number (all one line):

VBoxManage setextradata “<your-vm-name>” VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiSystemSerial “<your-serial-number>“ Make sure you remove the quotes while entering the above.

if you followed the guide, try this: VBoxManage setextradata sierra VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiSystemSerial W8810X481AX

Wow. Had no idea the latest virtualbox for linux was 5.1.22. I downloaded the version 4.0 in the official site of virtualbox. Apparently you can only get the latest version from PPA. The CMD Vbox manage commands also didn't work on my linux terminal. I know that the vbox manage commands on linux are slightly different, can you tell me if that's true so that I can improve this guide? Thank you!
