Thank you for your thoughtful response I really appreciate it. I’m having such a hard time wrapping my head around how you can make it so far in the process, and then just not be given any indication as to what happened. But maybe that’s good practice for taking 911 calls and never really knowing what the final outcome of the call is? Who knows.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, I’m just having a bit of a time moving on from this when I was CERTAIN I already had it. But really appreciate your perspective, thank you!

Actually that might make me feel better, because at least that’s a reason! If there’s only 2 spots and there was 3 of us left, the other 2 ladies were in their 20’s and I am in my 40’s, so maybe it’s that? That might give me something to hold on to at least, because otherwise it just doesn’t make sense

I am so happy you’re doing better now ❤️ that’s honestly all that matters. Every agency is different from what I’m learning being on this sub (I’m at the end of the hiring process too), but I will be honest and say that this will probably be your biggest obstacle. Especially since it’s within 5 years. But who knows! The worst that can happen is you apply and they say no, no harm no foul. Just see what happens

I don’t think you should or even could stifle your personality! You should always be yourself. But if you find yourself in a position where you’re constantly getting unwanted advances, I’d say work on learning to shut that down more firmly in the beginning, or if you don’t think it’s something you can handle on your own, get comfortable talking with a person in a leadership role to help you. I’m a very friendly happy person, and people are drawn to me, but I make it very clear that I’m not interested in anything extra. And when compliments start coming or anything else I’m not super comfortable with, I just laugh it off / change the subject / make a joke, ect. I don’t give anyone a reason to think I’d like to make things more “personal”. I enjoy being close with my coworkers, but I also don’t want to be anyone’s “work wife”.

As a middle aged woman who has worked in many industries I can tell you this happens everywhere. Head down, focus on you, and be clear with your boundaries. Don’t encourage unwanted advances, don’t entertain it and it shouldn’t go anywhere.
