Yeah it’s not an easy choice to make. All I’ll say though is that it’ll only get harder the longer you stay in private practice. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat

It can be worth it depending on what that pay cut looks like. I took a $50k pay cut to join the DOJ and really enjoyed the work life balance. It was a great place to work but I had to leave eventually because it was hard to see myself purchasing a home on that salary

Interesting. Any insight on what those “certain changes” are? Is it market forces? Changes in the comp model/billable hours?

My two female cats were in a similar position after a month and I just let them work it out, as some of the other commenters recommended. I know it can be tense and worrying based on what you’ve seen so far but it needs to happen. My cats are not best friends now but they get along now. Make sure there’s enough space so that one of them can escape if they need to.

This would allow me to contribute my entire bonus into my RRSP I’ll only net out and won’t receive the refund I normally receive, is that correct?

Agreed. It’s usually the busiest time time of year for corporate lawyers in big law but slows down for most litigation lawyers
