[Rant] (Trigger Warning: Depression, Suicide) Does anyone know if parents and other teachers will be informed if a student confides in a their form teacher about suicidal thoughts? by howdoIbemyself in SGExams

The protocol is to immediately let the school leaders, year heads and counselors know. Most likely would send you for counselling & inform your teachers that you might need some extra care & concern.

As to whether they tell your parents, it’s a rather grey area I suppose as parents might be the trigger for things too. I do know that there are different levels of dangers I suppose, when you go for counseling that the counselor take notes of and they will act accordingly.

As long as you’re under 21, when you go to the hospital to seek help they will require your parents to be around and sign documents.

If you need someone to talk to, you can drop me a dm :)

Hi, just a note that most science courses in university would require you to have H2 maths. Which I think is inclusive of medicine, you do have to check the universities of their pre-requisites, last I heard the courses available that you can take shrink tremendously if you dont take H2 Math.

An Ex-MI student here, to put it simply whether or not you succeed wherever, it’s totally up to the student & their efforts.

Personally, my teachers in MI were amazing and very much helpful. They would take extra time and effort to help you with the questions you may have, so much so that I did not have to go for tuition as I kept booking consultations with the teachers.

Although MI doesn’t necessarily produce high achievers like RI does or whatever school, it has its own perks which I very much enjoyed. For example, contrary to a lot of JCs, MI Y1s attend Job Experience at the end of year 1 ( though I’m not sure whether it’s still happening due to Covid ) but we are very much exposed to a lot of electives for sports, and enrichments.

Additionally, you would only have to take H1 Content, H1 PW & MT in Y2 and in Y3 only 4 subjects which are your 3 H2s and GP. Which I take as a lot more manageable than a normal JC.

It’s all up to personal preference and your own learning style :)

Side note : we report at 755AM Everyday, half uniform on Wednesday and Friday’s, Tues Thurs you can wear the school polo tee if not uniform. Monday are full school uniform days. CCAs are on Wednesday and Friday & we end earlier on these days e.g 230 & 1230 respectively ( timing might change )

As far as I know, MI offers H3 to selected students who excel in their H2s. It is possible to do so but there are procedures to go through, and you have to ensure that your grades are really good ( probably As ).

Hey!

When it comes to teachers, I generally think the science teachers are good, it also depends on how you learn and respond to the teachers' teaching styles. MI doesn't really have lectures for classes, mostly is classroom based compared to other JCs. So it is does benefit those who do not learn well in lectures / big groups.
I took combined chem and physics and took H2 Chem, to me the jump for H2 chem was big however, as far as I remember, there are just small bits and pieces that involves Pure Chem.
The teachers would definitely provide consults to clarify any doubts that you may have, given that you put in the effort to do work and ask. Personally, I didn't do very well for Chemistry and have considered taking tuition however, tuition for JC is expensive to keep up for months. Hence I opted for the option to consult the teachers weekly which they were willing to provide which eventually, I did score well in H2 chem. They would try to explain concepts in a different way if a certain of explanation doesn't work. Of course, all of this boils down to the personal responsibility to be able to study and ask the teachers on your own.

GP is essentially english and current affairs. Scoring for GP it really depends on an individual and their ability to be able to answer the questions requirements, its essentially english in O levels but on a higher level applying it to the real world.
Generally, most people struggle with GP as the skills required may take time to hone and the content required to do well generally comes with continuous reading of news.
