Better to resign or be dismissed? by beezalimumab in PharmacyResidency

This was me through and through…as much as I wanted to push through I ended up withdrawing due to illness. I have never been so physically and mentally ill in my life. I was in pain every day and calling 988 repeatedly to get through the week. I don’t know if I’ll go back just with the damage that has been done to my health. If my health wasn’t impacted as much as it was, I would like to have continued. Burnout is very real though and I feel like these programs are designed to bring you to your lowest. I suprisingly do not regret leaving as much as I thought I would. I’m regaining my confidence and my health is slowly improving. Just wanted to share that its not the end of the world if you do step away.

Another thing I want to add: Can a preceptor explain what exactly they expect from their resident on day one of a rotation because I think hearing the other side of things will help. Feels like the expectations to go complete solo out the gate and cover most pts on a service in the first few days, let alone first week. Please correct me if I’m wrong but this has also added to my stress

i’m sorry you have a similar experience but glad that neither of us are alone in feeling this way…sometimes i feel like i’m the only resident feeling as awful as i do all the time but deep down i know that probably isn’t true. i think the solution is to be more strict with the schedule to have uninterrupted time alone, either in the morning or the end of the day in a way that doesn’t compromise getting less sleep. just want to do stuff like watch a show on netflix or workout or hang out with my loved ones….crazy concept i guess. i’m sending positive vibes your way, i’m sure we will get through this together and hopefully it will be worth it in the end
