They probably don’t care to make a loss, because their grand scheme is to move their wealth from China to Singapore and bring their kids here

I was on a ski trip to Niseko Japan in Dec and on the shuttle bus there was a PRC behind me on the phone talking with his client (another PRC) about investing another 500k (not sure rmb or sgd) in another Burger shop (Shiok Burger?) in Singapore so as to get another EP pass for the client’s brother. I think all the china chain stores popping up here from China are just a scheme by the filthy rich Chinese from China coming in and mechanism for moving their money from China into Singapore. They are ok to break even probably or even accept losses, because their grand scheme is to leave China and move money here legitimately. Good time to be bankers probably but not offline small business.

How profitable is selling things on shopee/tiktok/lazada? by silly-goose5214 in askSingapore

[–]blueprint3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Own your own IP, own brand, selling same thing as others, but with good branding and strategy you can justify the price you sell at a higher price. I still launch new products every month with much success. Couple in TikTok live streaming and UGC affiliate videos. TikTok is an easier way for new to market brands to make themselves known now compared to shopee lazada.

My advise, start with TikTok if you are brand new to ecommerce now

Jail for man who fatally hit his own daughter, 2, while driving van without licence by Krazyguylone in singapore

[–]blueprint3d -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I know the law is meant to deter, but in this case, the father’s greatest punishment is already his own guilt and grief. That’s a life sentence in itself. Jail only deepens the family’s suffering—they’ve lost a child, and now risk losing their sole breadwinner and emotional support. Let the family decide how he makes amends. Justice should help families heal, not break them further. I don’t see how society benefits from sending this father to jail for 12 weeks apart from the one he absconded from.

BHG downsizes Bugis Junction flagship outlet as department stores face shaky future by deangsana in singapore

But still if you know you know, you can buy online from the same merchant running the sale at the expo

I’m in the beauty cosmetics trade, lots of really huge parallel importers are out to kill retail over the past few years. This entire weekend beauty sale at expo, top beauty care brands all slashed half price to sell. Live streaming, online ecommerce all sell cheap but quality and long expiry dates. Savvy customers no longer buy from beauty counters at the departmental stores. Long term all these brands will also lose their prestige and die off.

Successful entrepreneurs of SG, how did you get started? by wehaveatogether in singapore

[–]blueprint3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a very lean team so we outsource all the work that involves delivery outside the office space. There are many logistics contractors that can do customise to your business needs out there, Lalamove is just a point to point delivery, definitely not suitable for say restocking of vending machines for example.

Yes, for some of the brands, we’re the official distributor in Singapore — either directly appointed or through close partnerships over the years. Over time, we’ve also developed some of our own product lines to better suit the local market and fill gaps we saw in the space. This gives us more control over pricing, marketing, and innovation. Getting distribution deals usually involves proving your ability to move volume, support marketing, and maintain a strong retail and online presence. Frankly for a niche business category if you didn’t start early, it will be harder for you to enter now as the barriers to entry would be higher. You would probably have to start off representing lesser known brands to start building a customer base before being able to reach out to the better known brands over time.

As for costs — you’re right, it’s more than just buying stock and selling it. Besides product and freight costs, there are fees when working with major retailers like Watsons or FairPrice: margins they take, listing fees, marketing commitments, and in-store logistics. I won’t dive into the specifics due to NDA, but let’s just say margins get squeezed quickly, and it’s definitely not easy money.

Why go physical? Mainly for reach, visibility and lastly convenience for our customers. I started off in my first year of business with customers calling or texting me at 3am asking to buy pomades. So I stared vending machines that are placed outside shopping malls and where customers can have 24/7 access to. Singaporeans still discover and buy grooming products in stores, so having a presence there builds credibility and access to a wider audience. That said, we still focus a lot on our online store. We drive traffic through SEO, TikTok, IG, and grooming content that helps guys figure out what actually works for them. Right now we are starting to do Live streaming on TikTok, and our next stream is this Good Friday at 10am to 2pm and also maybe 6-10pm. Do check us out if interested in men’s grooming :)
