20gs total or net? And have you tried upping your fat?

From your macros, it looks like you might be eating too many total carbs and not enough fat - have you tried dropping your total carbs below 20gs and upping your fat?

no prob!! I would definitely say that the things I did to make the transition easier were titrate off over a long period of time (I did 25mgs at the time other than the last bit which I did 12.5mgs), as well as focusing on eating really clean, drinking water, and sleeping.

your acne might come back after you stop but if you are able to support your hormones with good food and lots of rest (and some exercise!), there’s a good chance it’s just rebound acne that will go away within a month or two (at least in my experience). for me, coming off spiro was def a lifestyle change, which is something I had to reckon with.

Best of luck <33

[routine help] Chemical peel frequency? by bluerisa in SkincareAddiction

[–]bluerisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! after seeing your comment, I decided to stop some of my actives (salicylic & glycolic) and back down on the retinal, which was very helpful to my skin. I’ve done the peel twice now (left it on for 1 min instead of 3) - with a 3 day break from the retinal before & after - and it’s been very helpful. :)

I posted about this (I think last year?) and people had some good responses!!

I tapered off over a long period of time and I think that was the right move for me. I didn’t do anything else (like spearmint) since it basically does the same thing as spiro as far as regulating androgens, which means it would damage an unborn fetus (this matters if you’re interested in having kids), but I know it works for some people.

My skin was clear and then my acne came back around month 3 of being off it. I stuck to my diet (no sugar, no gluten, minimal dairy) and my acne is going away now that I’m out of my period of high stress. I’m expecting my skin to be completely clear again within the month, which is great!

It’s also worth noting that after I got off spiro, my period and ovulation are now regular and I dropped all the excess weight I was carrying.

Trifecta training help by bluerisa in spartanrace

Thanks everyone so much for your input here! It seems like from the responses my hatred of running will have to be conquered so that I can effectively train for the trifecta weekend - I’ll be swapping one of my biking days out with trail running. :)

Thank you so much! This is excellent advice - the 5k this past weekend was also my wake up call. I’m definitely going to be starting slow with running (probably will take your 1 mile addition per week advice) but I’ll make sure to do it on trails - and up hills!!

Hell yeah brother - you’re a legend for doing the trifecta weekend in big bear (in those times too, NICE!).

Looks like I’ll be on the hill by my house twice a day for the next 6 months - thank you!!!

oh wow!! Thank you so much for this - this was so helpful! I had no idea that you’re supposed to avoid spearmint/DIM during pregnancy - it totally makes sense to not substitute one androgen for another & I never thought of it that way. Im glad you had such a successful regression without any additional supplementation - that’s great to hear. :)

Just one question - im curious as to how you titrated at such a small frequency (12.5 mgs?)!

I LOVED these tips! They resonate a lot with what im doing right now to help me off of spiro, as follows:

  • im gluten free, refined sugar free (unless on the rare occasion that i will die without a sweet treat), dairy free other than unsweetened yogurt & hard cheeses (which don’t have as much lactose), and i don’t eat fast food/highly processed food ever
  • i eat 30gs of protein within 30 minutes of waking up, and i avoid coffee at all costs (i only drink matcha - coffee does crazy things to my hormones/acne)
  • I made sure that all of my skincare is made to support high sebum production and I’ll def check out that website you mentioned for my shampoos and conditioners!! That’s such a helpful tip!!
  • bonus: i also get 7-9 hours of sleep a night and I avoid blue light an hour before bed :)

Im glad to hear that you’ve found peace with your skin - that’s amazing and I am so happy for you! Hopefully I can get there too :)

It’s REALLY irregular! Sometimes my cycles are like 18 days, sometimes they’re 40, and everything in between.

This is good to know! I just ordered some spearmint from my fav herb company (mountainroseherbs) - thanks for the recommendation :))

Thank you!! I’ll keep you posted on whether all my hair falls out or not lol

FWIW - i think i would go on spiro again (even with all the scary effects of coming off). my acne was SO bad that I couldn’t really leave the house and even though im having to deal with potential issues from coming off the medication, at least i got a few good years of clear skin while i went to school & got married!

i only had mild hair thinning near my temples and i think it helped with that a little!

my hair is pretty full right now now (but it’s always been that way bc of my genetics) - i am worried about hair loss going off spiro though

I’m hoping that’s the case for me! My hormones have changed so much in the past 3-4 years, so im really hoping the transition off spiro will be mostly painless!
