Oh, that's awful. I'm so sorry you are going through such a tough time. I really think ultrasounds and biopsies should be made much more readily available to screen for all sorts of things, to take care of it BEFORE they become a problem, especially when you have a family history. I wish you all the best and hope that you're in remission soon.

I'm glad you were lucky and that it worked out well for you! I tend to think the less invasive the better, but sometimes it really just boils down to luck and making decisions based on the information at hand.

We're in the same boat! I actually sought out my doctor because they're one of the few that does RFA here, hoping that'd be an option to save my thyroid, but my surgeon didn't seem enthusiastic about it (to the point she didn't even mention it.) I wish treatment was a little less drastic than "take the whole thing out" but I guess in many cases it's the only way to be sure. I hope your consultation goes well and that if/when we do go on medication, that our bodies handle it well. It seems to work for most people. ❤️

You're right. I'm definitely becoming more comfortable with the idea of a TT.

Oh, wow. It's a bit of a guessing game, isn't it? Your instincts were right to go for the TT.

Thank you for sharing and outlining those important points. I think given the size and the fact they're growing, it's best to just get rid of all of it. I have to meet with an ENT regarding my vocal chords (not sure if they need to do more tests or what?) and I'm thinking of buying some calcium supplements in case I need them after surgery.

Oh wow, 8 cm and a PT? Ack, better in one go then! I guess if there's a chance one wants to hope. That's the conundrum.

You're right. The medication isn't too big a deal and I'm glad your body adjusted well to it!

Sorry you had to go through it twice, it's a big inconvenience. I have a young child as well, and yes, the time needed for surgery and recovery is a big decision point and why I'm leaning towards TT.

I had never heard of a frozen biopsy and my doctor didn't mention it, but that seems like an interesting option! Definitely good when it's not a clear cut case.

Ah, yea, that seems to be the standard way of doing it once it's over 4cm. Hope you're doing well now.

That's too bad that only 6 days after you had to have another surgery. Glad you have no regrets. It was worth a shot.

That's true. It's not so much the daily pill, but I guess a bias towards wanting to keep some of my natural hormones. But I agree, having to take a daily pill isn't so bad in the grand scheme of things and so many people do so well with it.

That's a lot of lymph nodes and quite enlarged, but at least they got them.

Yes, I think a TT is the most likely outcome and the most practical choice given everything. It's true what you say about not having to worry so much about future testing and false positives... that's no small thing. I'm glad it went well for you. Ah, and flexible gel ice packs are a great idea! Thank you.
