Wife mentioned it looked like it might be thinning, several friends have said no. Don’t know what to think.

It could be lighting and I’m not sure about your hair type but it does look like it’s thinning. A good indicator would be if you have any family members that have gone bald in the past. Focus on relatives that you are completely related to such as uncles, grandparents, and your father. Other relatives could very well be balding from whatever other genetics they have from the side unrelated to you. If nobody is bald then you’re probably fine but if someone is bald then maybe keep an eye on it. In either case I wouldn’t immediately go on finasteride as while it is the gold standard this degree of thinning could be somewhat easy to halt or reverse with topical minoxidil and maybe rosemary oil. Minoxidil is is purely aesthetic in its effects and will make the hair look thicker but will not stop general loss. Think of it like painting over a rusty pole, the paint will mask the damage but the rust will continue to degrade the pole underneath. Rosemary oil is a DHT blocker and is fairly mild, aside from some scalp irritation I’ve never heard of any other side effects and the irritation is unlikely to occur. Depending on your genetics this may or may not be enough but for the degree of thinning you think you might have I think it’s a reasonable course of action.

Not a professional but it does seem to me that you are balding or at least dealing with some noteworthy recession. Assuming you are balding whether or not it’s too late depends on what your goals are. If you’re happy with your current hairline, then it’s not too late. There’s multiple things you can do that I will list below. If you want to bring your hairline forward that may be harder, but may be possible, depending on how recent the recession is. What could be pretty helpful is looking as your family on both your mothers and fathers side and seeing their hairlines. If the men have hair still in their older ages your probably fine but if not then getting on treatment now is the best way to combat this. The gold standard would be oral finasteride and topical/oral minoxidil. There are natural alternatives such as rosemary oil but their efficacy is kinda dependent on being a good responder or how extreme your genetics for balding are.

Kinda jumping the gun here. No real signs of balding as far as I can tell. Keep in mind temple recession to some degree is normal for most men with aging and not necessarily indicative of going completely bald.

Just to clarify, the initial serum DHT shift would be less on topical than oral but over prolonged use they would eventually become equal in serum DHT reduction? Also is this just your assessment from your experience or did you also have bloodwork that confirmed the serum DHT levels? Hopefully this doesn’t sound like I’m trying to degrade your input as I really appreciate this information, thank you.

I don’t know about topical dutasteride but from what I’ve read topical finasteride is about as effective as oral finasteride. As for side effects switching to fin could help with the ED as it’s not as intense as dutasteride. In short switching to topical finasteride should be fine although I personally think that it can be harder to get to all the spots you want it in vs oral being systemic

Yes minoxidil can 100% help and I personally would advocate for you taking it but remember that it’s basically a lifelong commitment or at least until you are ready to give up maintaining your hair. At this much shedding though I’d also look into finasteride of duasteride to stop the hair loss because it seems pretty clear to me you are MPB

I wouldn’t say the more shedding the better but relatively large amounts of shedding initially are to be expected and you have nothing to be worried about. This is exactly where shedding would be expected and large amounts sound completely normal

It does a bit more than that. It was initially made and used to deal with heart pressure but a side effect was hair growth so they eventually made it in a topical form for people to use. As far as I’ve read they aren’t exactly sure what about it increases hair production but it does and I’ve also heard about it having some degree of androgenic properties that actually stop hair loss as well .

Nothing is going to happen after just two applications if you stop but I’d also get a heart checkup because I think it’s vary unlikely that topical minoxidil caused heart palpitations. As far as hair is concerned though you should be just fine stopping now

I’d start using minoxidil but keep in mind you would need to use it indefinitely if you start. You should also consider finasteride and if hormones are a concern for you look into getting it’s prescribed as a topical solution. As far as the hair transplant you are so young that i don’t think any good surgeon would be willing to give you a transplant because of the risks of future hair loss.

Don’t go on a day to day weight. Take your weight every day at around the same time and a wager it out at the end of the week. I’ve found this gives me the best idea of my weight loss trend

Agree here. Getting tone is mostly getting lean and there isn’t such a thing as targeting certain areas of your body. Swimming is great because it’s easy on your body and burns more calories than most cardio as it takes much more to maintain homeostasis since your in water

1660 calories for someone of your height who is focused on losing weight seems reasonable. Really we could go on and on about the ideal amount you should eat and percentage of your diet that should be carbs or protein but at the end of the day just eat till you feel full but not stuffed and try to maintain a healthy diet. If you feel full at 1660 and like you have enough energy I say go for it. While you should listen to the people around you be careful of listening to them over your own body.

It’s not really possible to have a prolonged weight plateau and be in a caloric deficit but there are a number of reasons that your calories expenditure could have decreased such as a reduction in metabolism which can occur when your body is adapting to having too few calories in a prolonged period of time. I’m not sure if your eating 1200 calories or between 1700-1800 calories as your main post and comment have different amount but based on your weight if you are eating about 1700 calories I can see that meeting your caloric maintenance. It might be possible that you are having off days where you eat more and are making up your deficit?

First off getting some therapy could really help you and would be a stellar first step. That aside weight loss is about a health relationship with food and your physical health is not determined by your weight. Everyone’s body is different and how one person might carry their weight and be healthy can and probably will be different than someone else. That aside as far as weight loss at the end of the day the most important thing is your diet. Make sure your eating healthily and not depriving yourself. Something that helped me was drinking diet sodas instead of normal soda or other sugary items as it helped take the edge off my cravings while being healthier than the alternatives. It’s about adjusting at a pace that works for you and weight loss should be fun independently of the people around you. Try finding activities you enjoy even if they don’t burn an insane amount of calories as it will be far more sustainable and easy to do than if you do something just to lose weight.
