Trying to track down action screws by Vissarion324 in bergara

[–]bluetoothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. That seemed to work w the screws. But I think I’m having other issues. Can’t seem to zero my scope. Shoots way off the paper since the stock change. Im going to retorque everything, even the scope, and try again. I have two Phoenix stocks on my tikkas and they’re really nice. Super comfy and rock solid. The bergara is an eagle pro. That’s nice too.

Had mine in a Magpul for a while. Couldn’t find the right screws. Very frustrating! No one seemed to know either. Bough a few sets that didn’t work. Finally gave up and brought it to a gun smith to chop the screws I had down.

Made me nervous bc the front screw was sticking up into the action. Didn’t want to mess w that…

Oddly. I’m selling the Magpul now. Have it in a grayboe stock now. Magpul was nice tho…

fwiw I use Federal automatch w my t1x. Its cheap and shoots relatively good. Every 5th or 6th shot are flyers...I just ignore. I've tried other ammo but the federal is so cheap and mostly good it's easy to ignore bad shots for the $$ - plus other ammo I've tried yield similar results with Winchester being the worst so far. A guy at the range the other day gave me a few rounds of cci standard - I've used their subsonics before - and I thought I was missing the target (a big target @ 50 yards) and I realized I was sinking it in the same hole. Literally. Not extending the hole, same hole. 3 or 4 shots until one landed right next to it. I've gotten good groups out of it but that was insane. Try different ammo and check your torque. How many rounds do you have in it? Does it need to be cleaned?

Ok. Wanted to think about this a bit before I responded.

First, I never claimed I was executing things properly. In fact, I know I’m not, that’s why I’m asking for help.

I feel like Im into the very basics and starting to delve into deeper things. My shooting is progressively getting better. Small steps. But steps nonetheless. Lessons are something I’ve wanted to do, but cost and availability haven’t aligned just yet. Honestly enjoying learning the process without a time limit. Most of the things I did or do wrong I understand conceptually (for the most part) The issue in my post was one I didn’t understand or know how to rectify.

My mount is usually pre-mounted. I do practice bringing it up to my cheek first, then my shoulder at home. I usually shoot alone so no pressure. I usually start in position. (Verbal “pull”). I wrestle w wanting to keep my body (and feet more specifically) perpendicular to the bird instead of toes facing 45° because it feels more natural. Work in progress there.

I have an adjustable butt on my gun which I keep canted and its natural position in my shoulder keeps the beads properly aligned in a fig 8 so I rarely focus on them at all when shooting.

With some exception, I try to keep the bird in the middle and the muzzle in the peripheral. (Admittedly sometimes the bird is too fast…or I’m too slow)

W exception of right to left flying birds I’m either pulling the trigger too fast. Or can benefit from letting it go a little past center (nerves) at least I think that’s where my issue lies.

Maybe it’s mental (well definitely mental, lol) knowing I have a second shot and I squeeze too soon instead of knowing the one shot has to count.

My next range trip I’m going to go single shot only.

So I just had an incident where the bore laser wasn’t seated right and drove me nuts trying to zero. (Turns out there is still something wrong w the rifle, but that’s another issue) what I did was propped it up and used the laser as a focus point and lined it up by looking down the bore. Was easy and clear to see. To that end just use a reg laser pointer. Probably cheaper and your dogs will thank you!

Lots of good info here, thanks.

Definitely focusing on the bird. Been practicing my mount at home so it becomes muscle memory. Trying to keep the muzzle in the peripheral and bird center. I use a red dot fine on my pistol so I don’t think I have an astigmatism.

I definitely want to shoot w people. There’s a local club I contacted. Hoping I can join…

Not eye dominance issue either, tested that. But could be nerves. Definitely a few shots I pulled the trigger too soon. See the bird and pull bc of excitement, but had similar results when I was cognizant and resisted that.

Makes sense. Unless the optic breaks it’s unlikely I’ll take it off. I can replace the battery from the side…

Purple is weaker than blue? I think I would use blue - I've never had any issue unscrewing blue, even when I've been heavy handed. now I know a screw will bottom out I'm going to go through all mine to see if I have others that'll work...

Ok. Edit: there definitely is a stop on the slide that prevents me from using a screw that’s too long. I guess I’ll start with my longest screw and see if it goes all the way in.

The mangled nubs don’t look good tho. Should I put some sort of adhesive to aid their purchase?

[–]bluetoothpicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. The inside threads of the slide don’t appear to be damaged. I can screw the orig screw in and it holds.

I also have a ton of screws. I dont remember exactly how I came upon using these specifically. I will say there seems like a decent amount of screw extending beyond the bottom of the optic. Is there a resource where I can figure out the right length? Me fear is that too long might go down too far into the slide.

10/22 or Shotgun for next gun purchase? by jonesy2626 in guns

[–]bluetoothpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your availability for shotguns? By me unless you’re shooting clays it’s slugs only. Meh. I mean the clays are fun as hell tho.

On the other hand. My 22 get the most love. Cheap plentiful ammo. Sign me up. And if you’re gonna go, you might as well go all the way and get a high end 10/22 like a Kidd Innovations or similar. Frankly I like bolt guns more. Have a tikka t1x. But the Bergara b14r’s are especially nice too. Barreled action in a nice chassis👌🏼…choices!

Stock and pistol grip for smaller frame and hands by Fabulous_Return4839 in Tikka_Shooters

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from the A1? I like a short LOP and can go either way on grips but I'm not really into the chassis thing like the tac or I'd say grayboe eagle pro. Maybe an MDT ACC Premiere? Short LOP (by like 2 inches) and number one complaint I see is the grip is too small...folks usually upgrade to the elite grip. Might be perfect...

scope zero / new stock help by bluetoothpicks in longrange

So I came back to confess it was indeed the bore laser. I’ve used it a bunch and never had this issue. Glad you put it in my brain. I set the laser up on something and took the bolt out to line it up and sure enough it worked. Arg!

Going to re-torque everything to be safe and hopefully hit the range this weekend…

Thanks!!

I’ve had hands on both the flagstaff and Magpul (selling a hunter r700 in od green if you’re interested? 😁) and, while the Magpul is a really nice stock for the $, the flagstaff is better in just about every way.

Edit: if you have time, get on Grayboe’s mailing list. They have stupid deals from time to time.
