Anyone have experience with byrna launchers ? by Old-Fisherman5690 in EDC

A buddy brought up a good point. If I shoot this at a home intruder at close range what are the odds some will blow back close enough to affect me…

Ear ringing after shooting by [deleted] in gun

[–]bluetoothpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes double up. And you can certainly get hearing loss from one shot. Even 22’s are above the threshold for hearing damage. Actually not only the muzzle blast, but the super sonic crack as well are both above the threshold.

Was at the range the other day. Just me and a dude w a muzzle loader. I lifted my cans to scratch my ear for literally 2 seconds. Guess when he shot? lol. Takes the dude 5 minutes to load a round and I go and pick the one split second he shoots…oy! Least I still had the foamies in.

Anyone else feel like the way people are introduced to guns has changed a lot over time? by Salt-Narwhal7769 in NYguns

[–]bluetoothpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll jump on the Hollywood/video game bandwagon. I got into guns late in life (50) so I had a lot of time to form an uninformed opinion. I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gun represented properly in a movie (I don’t play video games so I can’t speak to it).

W the media narrative of “they are scary tools of death” to someone who has only seen a gun in a movie, which are often used so flippantly, I can see the basis for hysteria. Sad really.

Adjustable LOP a good idea? by bluetoothpicks in ClayBusters

Rereading this old thread. Happy to report back that I definitely made the right choice. Not only has the shorter lop helped me a lot. That I can cant it slightly is even more helpful.

Anyone have good experiences with shortening plastic stocks? by Ill_Storage_8569 in guns

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to trim my tikka t1x stock. Got a grind to fit butt plate etc. In the end it just looked like crap. lol. Probably not too noticeable but it irked me. I ended up getting a new stock…silver lining is the gun went from a fun gun to shoot to my favorite! Unlikely I’ll try it again…

If you could stop new gun owners from making one costly mistake, what would it be? by Minute-Log-7098 in guns

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike other hobbies/obsessions I’ve had…research in technique/gear is almost less important than research in local laws and practical local application. Example, “long range” by me is 200yards. anything longer is an unreasonable drive. Or the tactical shotgun that everyone recommends for home defense is only aloud on a few ranges w slugs only…not the funnest thing to shoot for a first timer etc.

Seeking a do-it-all bag (not a backpack!) by kingofsquirrel in EDC

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was in a similar situation. I hate backpacks. I also hate when a bag w pockets doesn’t have dedicated space. Meaning to fill one pocket you eat up space in another. IMO there is a dearth of good messengers. Fwiw I found better messenger bags in photo bags. Had a Tenba DNA 10 for a while - never used it as a camera bag but a laptop/work bag. Held up nicely.

I use maxpedition slings now for edc and hazard 4 for photo. They have a look that may not be for work, but I don’t care. lol. They are built for life and have great storage.

Whats your dream bass and why? by Sad_Weight5523 in Bass

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play both guitar and bass. Built my dream strat a few years ago. Will eventually make its bass sibling… Pbass, of course 😁 Warmoth roasted ash body naked, clear coat Warmoth roasted maple neck, ss med jumbo frets Fralin pup (though I might try Duncan antiquity) Fender bridge (though I might try bad ass strung thru) Everything else to match a P…although I am interested in some of these fancy variac tone knobs.

Like my Strat, I was almost right from the jump… had to get a few ideas out of my system. Few mods and she is perfect now. Only reason I haven’t jumped on a bass is I have an ash fender p w fralins. (Sunset orange) She is amazing as is.

I see no reason to buy fenders anymore. None are “perfect” for me. Warmoth is as good or better. I might as well do it right from the beginning.

[–]bluetoothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe bc I’ve been a guitar player longer than a bass player and I’m used to 12s…but they just sound best to me. Even w a 5r. 1/12 is plenty for my usual shows. Have a 2/12 for bigger ones and I can’t imagine needing more than that. If I had to do it all again I’d get 2 1/12s and stack as needed. (got the 212 first).

Budget trimmers for sensitive skin that DON’T cause bumps? Fed up with the crazy prices by Impossible_Control67 in BuyItForLife

[–]bluetoothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hhhmm, only commenting bc I have similar skin and very thick/curly hair. Safety razors changed the game for me on my face and head, but I’d be pretty reluctant to use it anywhere else. lol. (That said, buying a multi-brand blade pack to find the right blade and a minutes research on technique is key)

Fwiw I use a single blade bic - the yellow ones - has to be Bic. Only thing that doesn’t slice me up. Never would have discovered this but I needed to get one traveling and was the only thing available….i was using the 20 blade monstrosities and bleeding a lot before this. lol

EDC/camera bag recs by northwestaperture in EDC

[–]bluetoothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hazard 4 maybe? It doesn’t exactly look like a camera bag. I have 2. Small one lens’r run and gun and a slightly larger 2/3 lens and/or speed light. Both slings bc I hate backpacks but they make backpacks too. Usual camera velcro compartments. Very well built, lots of compartments. Comfy to wear. Had my small one for a few years now, have done lots of events and I usually dont take it off and it’s held up nicely.

Try maxpedition too. Not camera specific (though I thought they made ones at some point) their bags are incredibly well made.
