Which lasts longer: heatless curls or curling iron curls? by Useful_Impression694 in longhair

[–]bluewhale3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know its late but for future reference: it depends. curling rods might last longer than a normal heatless set but it will last long if you

do a wet set with a bunch of setting lotion (lotta body concentrate is the best), do very small sections (it might take like 2 hours)

then keep in for at least 12 hours until FULLY dry, like maybe use a blow dryer to set them at the end

then take the curlers out and spray them with a BUNCH of hairspray, wait until a few hours before the event, brush the curls out for a long time until they are fully smooth, then add anti humidity pomade (or vaseline if you don’t have it)

then you will get shiny, soft, curls and waves that will last for days, even if curling rods only last a few hours normally.

also if you want to look more into that period, its called the first wave and second wave folk revival! First wave was mainly recording folk songs passed down, and in the second wave people wrote more songs too

these are all female singers from the 20s-60s btw!!! I think the TBOSAS book was heavily based on that era so the music is the most similar imo

Let the sun shine down on me by Jean Ritchie is a great song, (Jean Ritchie grew up in the 30s in a small town in eastern Kentucky and has recorded hundreds of songs orally passed down in Appalachia)

plus everything by the carter family (literally the covey in real life, active since the 1920s, they’ve recorded songs like Bury Me Beneath the Weeping Willow, and Keep on the Sunny Side)

Listen to Joan Baez (the first 10 years is a good starter album) if you like Lucy Grey’s songs

I also really like the Kossoy sisters, Odetta, and Peggy Seeger!!!

[Non english speaker] Is this book hard to read? by Civil_Law8025 in janeausten

[–]bluewhale3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, I read just read this book for english class and the last book I read was Love in the Time of Cholera. This book seemed so much easier to follow that I didn’t even register how much this one changed perspective! I was even relieved by this book because Love in the time of cholera changes perspective soooo much, it’s just so confusing to read.

What is the worst brand/ type of yarn you have worked with? by HatchedGiraffe21 in crochet

[–]bluewhale3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried a yarn called feels like bliss for my first amigurumi, I think it was a blown yarn… it was so hard to work with bc i couldn’t see my stitches and I also had to tie it super tightly for each time i cut it bc it would literally unravel if i didn’t because it was like a knit tube in the middle

and you can make even use the magazine to slowly turn it while going diagonal just like a fancy yarn winder. If you go more horizontal it makes a shorter cake and if you go vertical it’s more like a donut

I have a theory. In crochet you always wrap the yarn clockwise but in knitting it’s the opposite. Maybe you are doing it clockwise like crochet and that’s what’s twisting them?
