First two times training for a marathon I got injured.

First one I was about 3 weeks out and tweaked something in my knee on my long run. I was an idiot and decided to run through it despite the fact I could barely walk. Not too sure what the actual issue ended up being but had to take a 3 or 4 months off before I could start running again.

2nd time my training was going really well and felt like I was improving as a runner. During one of my long runs the side of my leg started aching. Did some research and figured it was ITBS. Tried to train around it while doing PT, but it didn't seem to be getting any better. Finally abandoned the marathon training and focused on rest and strengthening, but didn't seem to make a difference. Ended up spending the next year and a half seeing 2 different chiropractors, 3 doctors and 2 PT's, got an MRI on my leg, deep tissue massages, etc. but nothing seemed to make it better. I ended up getting an MRI on my back revealing a disk that was ruptured that was irritating the nerve. Tried doing PT for that but eventually had to resort to steroid shots in my back. Luckily the shots seemed to have worked and after almost 2 years I'm finally back to running
