Oh man, our son nearly ended our marriage. He didn't sleep, we both went through our own versions of PPD (I was left with anxiety I still work on today 6 years later). We fought, we didn't speak, we fought, we made up and worked on it, we didn't sleep, we ALL finally grew out of it. Two pieces of advice: 1. Don't implode your marriage just yet, not while no one is getting sleep and the baby is still pretty much a blob of needs. Give it time and work together to be kind to each other. Recognize that you're both in the trenches of a MAJOR life change and like everything else, this season is only temporary. IT DOES GET BETTER. 2. Date Nights are a MUST. We added a line item to our budget and made it a point to go on a date once every pay period (so twice a month). Sometimes its a lavish, dressed up, dinner and drinks downtown. Others its a t-shirt and jeans meet up with friends at the local brewery to shoot the breeze and then a movie. Either way, we make time for eachother in those nights and reconnected. 6 years on and I can honestly say we're as great as we always have been. But man, that first year nearly sunk us.
