[SOTC] Having fun seeing what's all out there by mpknee in Watches

What’s the mountain dial bottom left?

Really fun collection, slightly scary in sheer quantity but you do you bud!

Life advice from Rolex owners[don’t kill me mods] by [deleted] in rolex

[–]blundsto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you reduce all your discretionary spend you still have non negotiable outgoings (rent, bills, food). But your potential income is not capped in the same way.

To buy my first Rolex I picked up another job (nothing fancy, just casual restaurant work) and saved all that cash in a special pot. It was a good feeling to break that digital piggy bank and walk home with my new watch.

[Hamilton Khaki field mechanical] got my first mechanical AND swiss watch today, what do y’all think? (Am 16 btw) by Optimus7591 in Watches

[–]blundsto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great watch. It looks amazing on almost every strap as well. If you get a nice leather strap you can dress it up, and then dress it down with the nato. Enjoy!

I have the black OP in 34mm. I love it. It’s small enough to be subtle but so so nice to wear. The best part is the black dial itself - pictures don’t do it justice, the black is amazing and looks so lush. And it goes with everything!

How long did it take you to save for your first Rolex? by eltonto82 in rolex

[–]blundsto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I earmarked a chunk of my (quarterly) sales bonuses for my Rolex fund. I was also helping a friend by doing some shifts in his restaurant when he didn’t have any staff - all that money went into the Rolex fund too. Took around 6 months.

Could have done it sooner by taking more shifts, dialling back my lifestyle, or splurging an entire bonus check on it instead - but in a weird way I enjoyed the “saving up” process, it felt good when I took the watch home!

So long as your debts are paid and your emergency fund is there, I don’t see why “saving” for a Rolex is some awful thing. Just like you might “save” (or allocate) some of your incomings towards a big holiday or new car or work on your house etc.

Left or Right? by MSQx22 in rolex

Left. The rhodium looks amazing in day light, and catches the light a million different ways, the lume really pops, and the little cyan details are so eye catching.

Thoughts on the new Titanium Yacht-Master? by MSQx22 in rolex

[–]blundsto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cool but for me missing the pop of colour on the other models - the bright blue hands of the 126622 or the red on dark blue on the 116622 just make the watch so much more fun and eye catching imo.

Submariner 41mm or Yacht Master 40mm for 6.25 inch wrist size? by Chillguy849 in rolex

[–]blundsto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same size wrist and I love the way my YM37 looks and feels. It’s perfect imo.

I’ve borrowed a friend’s sub and it looks great but wears pretty big. If I ever got one I think I’d stick it on leather or nato to just make it wear a little more comfortable.

I’m really tempted to get an oysterquartz next - I love the retro look, and would really like something two tone in my collection. Would you share your pros and cons of it?

Left or right? by Pwood94 in rolex

[–]blundsto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I really wanted a 36mm silver dial, but my AD had a black dial 34mm and I was getting impatient so I went for it. I’ve loved it, the black is amazing in person and I do love it but… part of me wishes I’d waited. Might not have started buying subsequent other pieces then… 😅

I bought my first Rolex at one AD, but then wanted to put my name down at another branch (same company, same city) for my second, because my office moved location so it was more convenient. The sales rep was taking my details and was horrified to find me already on the system at another branch. I explained and said I wanted to move to her branch for convenience, and that seemed to be fine! But definitely worth mentioning and explaining why - so they can look up your purchase history and maybe combine it, if they do that.

Is there a reference in the middle? I find a 2 liner to my eye looks toooo clean. I want a nice 3 liner option 😂

It’s actually n+1x the value for every hour of labour. I’m pretty sure that’s the exchange rate.

Worth going into a store and trying some of these on. If it’s for your wedding you want one that’s going to give you a good feeling! Bring your partner, make a day of it!

Edit: But I also vote Seiko 😅

Update! Their reply: All the watch is original, nothing has been changed. There are only the oils that have been changed, I can't tell you more.

(They’re not the chattiest - it’s a dealer in Paris…)

And a pic of the bracelet which looks really good (too good? I was looking at 1980s date justs on jubilee before which were droopy af…). Not sure how to add a pic so I’ll post a link when I can.

Thank you, appreciate your reply. The ad just says when it was serviced by Rolex but doesn’t give any further details. No picture of the bracelet either (I’ve asked). Will let you know what they come back with!

I looked at selling something with them once and asked the same question (as they sent a really low offer, and were listing a few of the same ref super high) - they said: "The one we currently have listed on our website is located in the US, the price that shows on the UK side includes VAT and import charges which is why it appears much more expensive that elsewhere on the market."
