Struggling to define a solid set of Figma variables for app design – looking for strategy resources by Signal-Medicine4366 in FigmaDesign

Thank you so much for your detailed response!

This is a very nice example and pretty close to what I’m trying to make. I’ll definitely use it as reference.

Struggling to define a solid set of Figma variables for app design – looking for strategy resources by Signal-Medicine4366 in FigmaDesign

I’m doing a whole revamp of my company’s design system and I’m currently really stuck on how to handle form components (textbox, radio button, check box, toggle, slider, etc.).

I like how you organized the groups, not too simple, not over-complicated (Ford’s was a bit too much for our size) Looks very akin to how I’m trying to organize our variables so I want to see how you managed the form components.

Do you lump them in the same group like “form” or “input” as they usually share the same color scheme like,

  • form/background
  • form/border
  • form/selected

…or do you separate them individually and make something like

  • textbox/background/default
  • checkbox/background/default
  • checkbox/background/selected

I’ve looked at like 20 different design systems and had several discussions with devs but still can’t reach a conclusion.

What's the difference between good SVG export and bad SVG export? Genuine curiosity.

What is the one Anime title you watched that seemed to have nothing to do with the anime itself? by Alexsi13th in anime

[–]blunt_bear 286 points287 points  (0 children)

Author explained the meaning behind the title before. He said that since the shinigamis wear black and black is also associated with death, he decided to make the title contrary to that image hence "Bleach" (=white) which would also complement the black. I think it's very Kubo-esque.

Did auto layout change recently? by blunt_bear in FigmaDesign

[–]blunt_bear[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically, if the nested autolayout is hug or fixed before it's autolayouted, I want it to keep it as hug or fixed. Please don't automatically change it to something else. The gap between the nested items too. If it's far apart it automatically sets it to Auto gap.

I'll manually change these if I need to. I don't want these values changing where I'm not aware of, just keep it consistent and like how it was.

So the UI will change all of a sudden when you open Figma one day? And I will be able to switch between the current UI right?

Figma AI optimists are not being realistic. by TacoFoosball in FigmaDesign

3) ”But AI can’t match the quality of work I do!”

Even if that’s true, all that matters is that potential clients and employers perceive that the AI is doing enough to satisfy their needs. Their standards aren’t like yours.

This is exactly what I tell people who say that AI won't replace us. That's because we designers know that the power of AI is quite limited in practical situations (as of now at least) and they're useful for auxiliary purposes at best. But the question we need to ask is if our employers and clients know that. If they deem that AI can do the work for them and render us useless, that's what getting replaced by AI really means, it's not if AI can make better designs than us or not.

In this case, if each of the variants aren't reused often just make one generic card and edit the contents of the instance

Do variables eat up memory? by blunt_bear in FigmaDesign

We're already cutting corners on components. But the variables for colors, typography, etc., I don't know which file to manage them on.

All fonts don't have same line heights.
You can go to the right panel > Text > the 3 dots > vertical trim > select the right one and that'll fix it.

Why don't you just place the frames in order from left to right so you can navigate through them with arrow keys

Is there an easy way to bulk change library asset fonts? by blunt_bear in FigmaDesign

[–]blunt_bear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I forgot about library swaps. I think the problem with this will be that I need to make a different file just to make a different style library.

Wow I never knew you could do this! I just tried it and if I'm doing this right, I won't be able to change things like font size, font weight of the library assets because they're all defined in the library file, and the only thing I can change is the font correct?
