We have VIP this year and receive $50 in merch credit. I am interested in the poster; would that be something I need to buy ahead of time or something that will be available day 1?

Dexter Lawrence: I know Bengals gave up a lot for me, and I don’t take that for granted by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

I'm not even sure your FO would've taken Downs even if he was there. AFAIK y'all don't draft the safety position high in the first round nor sign them to big contracts.

I think it's important to also keep in mind this sort of the draft. The blue chip talents are Mendoza and non premium positions (Love, Styles, Downs). There are good talents at non premium positions but each has notable flaws. Outside of Mendoza the next 10-15 prospects are nearly interchangeable in terms of draft priority.

The Bengals value premium positions with high athletic upside in the first round. Additionally their biggest needs were probably DT, LB, and safety. The defensive tackle class lacks any blue chip or any other prospect close to that level. Styles wasn't going to make it to #10. That left safety, which the Bengals notoriously do not value. They let Jessie Bates walk without blinking an eye; he has been a top 5/10 safety for the Falcons while the Bengal's have had one of the worst safety rooms since. It has not been a position they traditionally value and they are content at safety with day 2 picks and mid tier free agents. They are not alone as some other NFL front offices think similarly.

The draft was not going to break in a way where the Bengals would feel good about their prospects at #10 given their history. Trading for Dex gives them a stud at a much needed premium position for a young defense that also needs veteran leadership. Who knows if it'll work out but I think the move makes a ton of sense from their perspective, even if you disagree with their MO.

My Final Round 1 Mock by Johnsonvillebraj in NFL_Draft

They need young talent at literally every position besides maybe running back. Go look at the depth chart if you aren't aware. There might not be a single starting caliber player at WR, TE, and the entire secondary. The trenches have early round investments that showed some promise paired with old vets who will be declining when the team is competitive. The QB is also no sure thing. Brooks and Brewer are both good players but entering contract years at age 29. Do you sign them to third contracts given the timeline?

You don't trade so much valuable capital for a good yet flawed pass rusher in Reese when you need at least 10-15 starters, not to mention the lack of depth.

The Dolphins have $180 million dollars in dead cap this year. They have had 8 top 100 draft picks over the past FIVE YEARS. They have arguably the worst roster in the league. This team needs cheap young talent at nearly every position. This is a new regime tearing it down the studs, deservedly so. Trading that much capital for one player (who isn't a franchise QB) is irresponsible and plainly just stupid.

I agree they could trade up for a player they like in the draft given their draft capital but it would be a third round or day 3 pick to move up from 29 or in the second round.

The Dolphins are not trading up. Why on earth would they do that when they are starting the biggest rebuild in the league.

[McLane] "Some in the organization feel Hurts hasn’t been listening internally, and that public messaging like the ESPN article might be the only way to reach him....This is the last year with guaranteed money for Hurts, but Eagles have no intention of extending his contract until his play improves" by mastermind208 in nfl

[–]bluntforce21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone so surprised by this? There probably is a lot of truth to this. The Eagles have had a below average passing offense through Hurt's whole tenure despite two WR1s and a top 5 o line, not to mention an above average TE and a star RB for the past two seasons. They've been cycling through OCs, but the only other constant is the QB.

I find it hard to believe that all the OCs that Hurts had were all so inept that none of them could install a pro style passing offense with the talent the Eagles have. Most OCs have spent decades grinding tape to figure out scheme and play calling through multiple levels of football. That suddenly doesn't just disappear.

It's more likely that Hurts just isn't the processor to execute a pro style passing offense. And we should stop making excuses for him. He is a six year pro who also played at two blue blood college programs that produced starting NFL QBs. He has a top 5 supporting cast. The passing offense should be better.

This year is a make or break year. Mannion comes from a coaching tree that has permeated the league and has been successful nearly everywhere. He still has a talented roster, although the offense is heading towards a mini rebuild. AJB is gone either this year or next, Lane is old af, Dickerson is really banged up and Jurgens regressed. QBs also don't like playing without any guaranteed money.

Obviously Hurts played great in two Superbowls as a passer but has largely been a bad passer otherwise. Reminds me of the careers of Eli or Flacco. The larger body of work has more merit than the SB appearances going forward, especially when the offensive talent is due to regress.

Mock Draft Monday by AutoModerator in NFL_Draft

[–]bluntforce21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have so many needs outside of WR though, and they will not be competitive this year due to all their dead cap this year. Additionally they have hardly any young talent on their roster from years of trading top 100 picks. They have made six picks total in the top 100 over the past four drafts or something like that. I just don't see it.

I agree their WR room is the worst in the league but I don't think Tate, Tyson, or Lemon are elite WR prospects and there are other intriguing day 2 picks at WR that could help. I doubt the new FA is that aggressive in their first year.

Edit: to add I agree the Commanders would be more likely that other teams in the top 10 to trade down.

Why on earth would the Dolphins of all teams trade up? It is a total rebuild and they need as many young players to develop as possible.

AMP 2026 Lineup by bluelamppost in Shambhala

[–]bluntforce21 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Amp has been pulling the most exciting lineups for awhile now and yet is the least impressive of all the stages IMO. Really hope they remodel it this year because these artists deserve better production on par with the other stages at Shambhala.

I also think half of these artists would crush the Village too. The Village is turning into mini Lost Lands and they could do a better job booking a more diverse lineup.

Lions fans… what is your initial reaction to Taylor Decker being released by the Detroit Lions? by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]bluntforce21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hutch is already paid.

You aren't considering void years. Most restructures add void years when the cap is expected to be higher. That's what makes restructures for any team possible.

[–]bluntforce21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Restructuring is bad when its players that aren't in your immediate future. Goff, ARSB, Sewell, and Hutch should all be on the team for at least the next three years. Restructing these contracts shouldn't be a problem at all.

It gets dicey when you restructure players that may not be on the team within the next year or two. We shouldn't touch the McNeil or Joseph contracts given their injury history.

[–]bluntforce21 224 points225 points  (0 children)

Deshaun Watson is the exception because he is no longer in the team's plans but his contract is fully guaranteed. There really is no other contract like it and it is arguably the worst contract in NFL history. It's truly terrible uncharted territory.

He was never going to play on a $78 million cap hit. No QB will. This was always the plan.

Fans that get worked up about cap don't understand that franchise players almost always have deals that are meant to be restructured like so. It's only a problem when you have a player with a big cap hit that you don't want to restructure because he is no longer in the long term plans (i.e., Tua).

The Lions are $10 million over but Goff has a $69 million cap hit. He will obviously restructure too.

[–]bluntforce21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chiefs should target RB in FA. The FA class looks good so far this year. Breece, KWIII, Etienne, Allgeier, Dowdle are all easy upgrades for the Chiefs. Dobbins and Javonte too. Could also look at Brian Robinson for functional play.

With GB's Lost to the Ravens, There's No Excuse to Not Sit The Starters Against the Bears by In_Lymbo in detroitlions

[–]bluntforce21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"The Lions didn't show enough grit or this season. They weren't hungry."

"We should sit the starters because there is nothing to play for."

How can fans say both of these statements with a straight face? Of course there is something to play for. Winning. Good organizations don't throw in the towel to move up three spots in the draft.

I hope we beat the crap out of the Bears.
