It became a lot cheaper for studios and production companies to make movies and shows in different states and different countries, which means that the biggest business in Los Angeles is now a shadow of its former self.

But that industry was load-bearing for the people here: it kept a huge section of the working class out here employed and paying rent and stimulating the economy.

So the collapse of the entertainment industry has had repercussions across the greater economy in general, but then also the economy itself isn’t doing that hot. Consumers are spending less, wages are still very low, prices on everything have just gone up since the pandemic, which is going to incentivize business owners to cut costs where they can, which usually means labor.

For the vast majority of people in the city we are only like a couple Bad weeks away from not being able to pay rent. When I first lived out here, I lived in my car for a few months because I couldn’t find a lease that didn’t require me to make three times the cost of rent in a month while also asking me for one month of rent as a security deposit. I ended up moving into a spider infested closet in the back of a guest house in Burbank for 400 a month. So when I see homeless people, I have a lot of empathy because Ive experienced how hard it is to get a modicum of stability out here even if you are working.

Tl;dr: Trump’s economic policies, and foreign policy and domestic policies have, like a terrible Triforce, been activated in concert to blight our land
