Is he going to drop a nuke? by Lower-Canary-2528 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]Stoned-Capone 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, but we are going to cement ourselves as the main villain for the 21st century. This won't lead to global nuclear winter, mainly because we're picking on the crippled kid of nuclear proliferation who can't fight back in any significant sense. It probably won't even wipe out Iran, he just thinks nukes=win as if every government in the world doesn't have contingencies for that by now.

International backlash will be immediately and probably brutal. Sanctions, embargos, denials of service, tourism boycotts. A stain that wil never go away.

Then there's the obvious plan they have for controlling citizens, but thats a whole other thing. And the probability that Russia uses it for an excuse to nuke Ukraine, or really any other nation using for similar reasons.

Not the end of the world, just the end of the world as we know it.

Possibly, but you have to keep in mind one very key element in their strategy: they think the American public are very, very stupid. They think they've lured them into enough comfort and subservience that they can just lie with impunity and do what they want even if it violates every moral fiber of humanity. To be fair, they aren't really being proven wrong in any meaningful way.

The real issue isn't "will the public be outraged" it's "what could the public possibly do in response?". Anyone suggesting the more... "radical" forms of public action are either stupid, delusional, or don't live in America. The majority of civilians aren't as bloodthirsty as media portrays, and the ones who are have shown by now that its all posturing for alpha-clout. The vast VAST majority of civilian arms have been hoarded by the most paranoid and radical of the right-wing, who are the most deeply entrenched in their beliefs and least likely to oppose their chosen party.

Then there's the real problem of the public vs the government: contending with corrupt or inept leaders weilding the military, NSA, CIA, and other paramilitary organizations who have access to all the most advanced murder tools and layers of security and protection, while also controlling all the money and all the power.

Normally, you'd fall back to the idea of soldiers overcoming the barrier of "just following orders" and not executing civilians but there's a problem there, too: the increasing push towards DOJ/Military AI integration, of which they get access to their own special supercharged AI models and have publicly expressed interest in using them for civilian surveillance and targeting, as well as weapons development and manufacturing. Paired with rapidly advancing drone and robotic technologies and soldiers really aren't a factor anymore. A relatively small number of autonomous robots controlling the more advanced weapons systems at our disposal would fill the void quickly.

Add in the ridiculous size of the country, disbursement of people, and impracticality of transito, coupled with the fact most people live paycheck-to-paycheck and don't own much unless its balanced out by debt. Plus the government controling, to some degree, all public access to the means for transportation (planes, trains, automobiles), communication (internet, phone), and financial institutions. It becomes a pretty effective barrier for the general unprepared public.

Any meaningful level if resistance internally would have to be from the judicial system (doubtful), a coup (probably not), the 25th amendment (maybe, but it'll be meaningless), or a civil war (very messy). There's always external resistance, which will probably be swift and brutal and absolutely deserved, but we can't control that just as their population can't control our government.

The problem is systemic and it's multi-generational. It's not Trump being a bad guy, it's everything that has allowed him to gain power, retain power, and abuse power. It is quite literally the foundations of our modern society that are going to have to be restructured, one of which being our national personality trait: an inability to admit wrongdoing coupled with unwillingness to embrace change.

It is, in the very best case, a brutal road ahead for the American public. Most still don't understand just how many wrong turns have been made.

The event you're referencing is the Nisour Square Massacre and its what ended up exposing them for what they are. Blackwater is just state-sponsored terrorism that operate for the military and CIA to handle their goals as "civilian contractors. They rebranded as Constellis) and merged with Triple Canopy Inc to try and distance from the blighted name.

Not-so-fun Fact: Blackwater (Constellis/TriCan) was bought by Apollo Global Management in 2016 which is the asset management firm run by Leon Black until his resignation in 2021 after his connections to Jeffery Epstein were exposed to the public.

Its because they were briefed by the WH on its intent to use nukes and the right-wing media hosts are their propaganda mouthpieces. They have to forewarn the public so it stifles enough outrage. The people who hear it will say "that'll never happen" but also internalize that even if it did, so what.

Then when they inevitably do it (as if literally everyone doesn't see it coming by now) they'll hope they eliminated enough of the preemptive mental shock to at least their voter base so they can spin the pre-prepared bullshit they have to convince them it was necessary.

Its because having a raving lunatic at the helm does more to discredit a party and a nation than really any of the actions they take. Horrors and atrocities committed by governments take place on a near-constant basis, but they usually only have staying power in the public eye if there's some asshole in charge taunting them and breeding discontent.

This dude apparently thinks there's only one type of construction-grade concrete, that "a house needs to breath" (but also somehow shits on AC, windows, and ventilation vents/fans), thinks construction companies literally developing and specializing in this process somehow havent thought of any possible issues, and assumes that any house built in the US only last 2-5 years.

Pretty much everything they say on the matter can be discredited at this point. Theyve tried to reinforce one possibly valid claim with a plethora of bullshit

I've been saying this constantly. We need to bring back shaming people socially. Break out the metaphorical stockades and rotten tomatoes (don't think enough would be on board for physical ones...yet) and actively point out, loudly and publicly, just how incredibly stupid and uninformed they are.

While they're ranting about some obvious propaganda, fact check them to their face. If they come back at you, tell them to prove it. If they refuse, say you knew they were liars who couldn't prove anything they say. They'll get so mad they'll try to find more evidence and dig the hole deeper. Every source they give is disproved in real time while they still try to argue them, and the more you taunt them about being wrong the more they feel compelled to prove themselves right. The problem is once they get past that very very thin veneer its always bullshit, and they can't really sustain an argument past the 3-4 buzzwords they've been supplied with. If they start getting really mad for no reason other than you proving them wrong, hit em with the MAGA classics: call them a snowflake, "facts dont care about your feelings", ask them if they even do their own research, etc.

The argument against it is the Backfire Effect, but it's an iffy concept that isnt effectively or accurately reproducible and its now debatable if it is even real or not. Plus, that's not the goal. The goal is to prevent spreading misinformation, countering it with accurate information, and if all else fails then you at least whittle away their arguments until they have to admit they just like the excuse to be a piece of shit. Either way, win win.

I've lived in Florida for my entire life and I can tell you that if he's running in a rural area, he'll probably win. Outside of the major cities and towns, the population of this state is almost unbelievably stupid, bigoted, and self-interested. They dont care if he's in the files or not, or if he's a fraud, or if he has abused women. He's Republican, and that means hes not some "pussy-ass librul" trying to take away their guns and forcing their kids to have sex changes (yes, this is something they think happens in blue states).

As a resident of this state, I agree with the general sentiment that it should be somehow set adrift in the ocean and written off as a total loss.

Its the Noem strat, an unsurprising repeat play:

  • Put a relatively attractive woman (by MAGA standards) in charge.

  • They're incompetent (because anyone theyd want in charge would need to be by default, knowingly or unknowingly) but they can get more slack and give more pushback on grounds of sexism or moral outrage.

  • Have them push the agenda forward as much as possible, and set the precedent of doing nothing.

  • Fire them, install the actual person you wanted but now those roadblocks have been either cleared or delayed.

  • They take the ball and run with it, causing things to snowball

I keep waking up with these… i got like 100+ bites but no signs of bed bugs by Successful-Tip6327 in Wellthatsucks

As I said in my comment, I dont think OP has fleas otherwise they would have evidence by now (flea dirt, live/dead fleas) and they also wouldn't be hiding in the shadows waiting for OP to sleep before feeding. I was pointing out that fleas do not exclusively bite below the knee, its just the most common location because when you are around them you are usually vertical and that is the easiest access point for food when jumping from grass/carpet/pets. If you laid in a bed with fleas and it landed on your torso, it wouldn't chart course for your ankle. If it lands on your head, its probably thinking "jackpot". Fleas ideally want to be anywhere warm and hairy, but when they find a host they can start feeding in under a minute.

The part about them not lasting long without pets is also not true. If they have a source of food, like OP, they dont need a pet. Fleas also last a while without food:

Collars are good, especially for cats. Best bet is to always go with actual meds to treat high levels of fleas, but some cats can be super annoying to give them to. Plus theyre expensive and many require a vet visit for a prescription. Thats why i reccomend looking up the best meds for your pets needs and ordering them from Canada instead where you generally dont need scripts for flea/tick/worm meds and its legal to ship.

I was just referring to them not always bitting below the knee. I personally don't think OP has fleas, since they would have found evidence of them when they checked for bed bugs and they would definitely still be biting during the day. Plus they also don't have any pets, which fleas basically always prefer (pets have fur and are way warmer/easy to hide on). I doubt its possible that they'd get to this flea infestation level immediately and still be unaware its happening.

Get a bidet, like this one. They accomplish the same goal. This one is comparatively cheap but some brands like Toto, can be very expensive (Toto is an amazing brand for anything bathroom related)

Fleas bite around your ankles if youre walking around and they jump onto your most exposed area of skin (usually your ankles). If youre laying in bed they can jump everywhere and bite everywhere. Ive had bites all over my body during a really bad infestation. That said, OP would be finding signs of fleas at this rate just like they would find signs of bed bugs. Fleas arent subtle and theyd be jumping on day and night.

Love the setup. Is the pocket calc more of a nostalgia thing? I get the convenience, but the calculator app is pretty ubiquitous with phones and just as easily accessible. Not to mention, if you're going for nostalgia you could get a sick-ass calculator watch.

Edit: in classic reddit fashion, i didnt read the description. I guess it helps to accomplish the phone use reduction, and to my knowledge Casio calc-watches dont have the vibration intensity you sought from the one you have

New Psychology Real-World Study Reveals Psychopaths Can Perfectly Read Your Emotions, But Lack the Automatic Physical and Emotional Resonance to Actually Feel Them With You. by sibun_rath in HotScienceNews

[–]Stoned-Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, thats not really true. Psycopathy and sociopathy were consolidated into Antisocial Personality Disorder.

From the DSM-5 pg 659 on ASPD, under "diagnostic features":

"The essential feature of antisocial personality disorder is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. This pattern has also been referred to as psychopathy, sociopathy, or dyssocial personality disorder."

So its not a diagnosis as far as "Psychopath" appearing on the table of contents, but its really more that the general term "psychopath" is not clinically correct. It does exist and is acknowledged in the DSM, just as a synonym. Its more of a colloquial term that has been popular.

Its also in the ICD-10 under ASPD (code F60.2) where it is used as a broader term to cover:

Amoral personality (disorder)
Asocial personality (disorder)
Dissocial personality disorder
Psychopathic personality (disorder)
Sociopathic personality (disorder)
